The Good Dog Book by Various ( - ).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-good-dog-book-by-various-authors/
A collection of stories and poems about Man's Best Friend. NOTE: Most of these selections contain violence that will be objectionable to some listeners. ( TriciaG)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
      .
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
      .
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
      .
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/gooddogbookabout00unse
      .
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Most of these stories are in the catalog already, but this is a nice collection, so I thought I'd offer it. :)

Word counts are VERY approximate.

I'll get to the division of the longer stories later.

Welcome! I'll pencil you in. Do you want your catalog page to display "Mirabelle" as your name?

Please do finish the 1-minute test before starting to record this. It's to make sure your tech settings are all correct, volume level is OK, etc., before recording "for real." :)

Yes, please let the name be "Mirabelle".

Umm, you don't post the resulting link anywhere. :) We aren't notified when a file is uploaded. Unless someone posts about it in the forum, we don't know it's there.

I can try hunting around for it later this evening, or you can upload it again (if you don't have the link the uploader gave you when it uploaded), then take the link and post it in a new thread over in Listeners & Editors Wanted. That's where the tests are checked. :) Someone may get to it before I can, if you post it over there.

Mirabelle wrote: April 24th, 2020, 2:06 pm Hi Tricia-

I've uploaded this recording. Link is here: https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/gooddogbook_16_various_128kb.mp3

Time is 2:10.
Recording itself is A-OK. :)

The recording is in stereo. To fix this recording, go to Tracks/Mix/Stereo down to Mono. To change all future recordings, go to Edit, Preferences, Devices. Under Recording, change Channels to "1 (Mono)".

While you're in there, please shave 1 second off the end silence, so it's 2:10. (Right now it's JUST ABOUT 2:11.) :)

Volume's a touch high. You could lower your input volume a smidgen. On this one, since you're in there, please Effect/Amplify by -2 (minus two, to make it quieter).

Finally, Bit rate is variable; it needs to be 128 constant. This is set when you export to MP3. When you go to export, on the screen where you enter the file name for the MP3, change the Bit Rate mode to Constant, and the quality should be 128 kbps.
You should only have to set it once; it'll remember the setting until you change it again.

Please upload the fixed recording using the same file name. Thanks!
