I've upgraded my Mac to Catalina, so Audacity doesn't work anymore on it. I'm trying to find a way to get Garage Band to work, but I can't set the sound to mono. Any ideas on how to do this?

Thanks!

It's a monstery-bear. Try the suggestions in this wiki: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=GarageBand

Oh dear. It looks very complicated, and I am not tech-savvy. :? Are there any other recording softwares that work?

Bump! Also not very tech-savvy. Also using Catalina. Also would like to get back into recording but really just want something user friendly. Starting to think it doesn't exist :(

Most of us here use Audacity, a free audio recording/editing program. I think it is available for all platforms. I use it every day and there are a lot of people who will help with it. Audacity makes that mp3 file effortlessly and reducing from stereo to mono is just one click.
Yeah, I know any new software is intimidating that that is my suggestion. (also I've made a bunch of tutorial videos on how to use it).

Best of luck and here is a dancing pickle to urge you on Image

There is a workaround for Audacity with Catalina:

I don't use a Mac therefore have no idea if this works or if anyone else here on LV has tried it. Just passing on the link. Use your own judgement if you want to try it!
