Alice Meynell was an English essayist, critic, and poet who was also a leading suffragist, serving as vice-president of the Women Writers' Suffrage League. She and her husband Wilfrid Meynell were active in publishing and editing literary works including helping to launch the first works of Francis Thompson, author of "Hound of Heaven." This is a diverse collection of essays ranging from reflections on The Sun, snd The Flower to the literary figures of Oliver Wendell Holmes and James Russell Lowell. ( Larry Wilson)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1276
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I recorded the title essay of this book for the Nonfiction Collection back in 2007! How time flies...

I did see that in the catalog, but hadn't noticed who had recorded it. Well, 2007, uh that was awhile ago . . . . I didn't find LV until 2013. Seven years coming up next month.

I BC'd several of Meynell's books of essays and poetry, but didn't get to this one, I guess. Interesting writer.

OK, you have a MW! Once you get it populated we will stick around here and see if a DPL comes along. Good luck with the project and let me know if you run into any issues along the way. :D

Thank you so much! I do have a quick last name pronunciation question. :?: I looked online and couldn't find it anywhere. Is her last name pronounced "MAY-NELL" or "MAY-NULL". Thanks!

Have been DPL for a project before?

Be sure to read viewtopic.php?f=21&t=17680

This will give you an overview of what is required.
I also like a DPL who will check the technical specs of each recording using our Checker program.

If you're okay with all of this, we'll sign you up!

I've read all of the DPL guidelines and gone through the quiz, so while I lack practical knowledge I feel pretty confident I can do it- and I can absolutely use Checker!

OK that sounds good!
I'll have Linny, or MC (meta coordinator) put you in as DPL and give you access to the MW. My process is to DL from the link in the Magic Window (not from the forum) and then run it through Checker, then listen to it in Audacity so I can see the wave form and get the time stamp for any needed corrections. I also check to make sure the beginning silence is no longer than 1 sec and that there are about 5 sec of silence at the end.

If you are uncertain about anything, just shoot me a PM, okay?
There's a lot to learn, but I'm grateful for your help. I think you will enjoy Meynell.
