The Money-Spinner by Arthur Wing Pinero (1855 - 1934).

When his younger brother incurs a large betting debt, what could be easier than for a man to borrow the money to save him from the factory he runs while his employers are away. Whoops; his employers are coming back before he has repaid the money. Ah, perhaps his wife can get the money from a friendly Lord who was once her suitor.... A friendly card game perhaps. What could go wrong?

Another Pinero comedy. The usual shenanigans. and also as usual, gender neutral.

Sonia will again be our ever helpful DPL, but be sure to watch your wallet as you talk to her here: her character has, er, an interesting past and some useful, if not strictly legal, skills

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/moneyspinnerano00pinegoog/page/n5
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I have nothing outstanding, and would be interested in narrating if that’s OK. But if you feel you would prefer to reserve it for a new person, I won’t object. I see there’s quite a lot to do in this one!

Fun! May I sign up for Dorinda? Pretty sure I don’t have anything outstanding :)

Word has it that that classy Lady Sonia has gotta brainwave. Instead of fleecing the local yokels, for a change she’s disguising herself as a prole to lurk among the aristo mugs.

After playing so many conmen, seems only fair that Sonia gets a chance to clean my clock at cards for a change.

May I sign up for Lord Kengussie please?

Cheers,
Chris

May I claim Jules Faubert?

I have outstanding claims but none overdue as far as I know.

Hoping to get in early this time, I’ve recorded the stage directions and will edit them shortly.:D There are a couple of queries, though.

After the Cast of Characters the scene is said to be 17 Rue Beauvoisine. But in the first line of the Act 1 stage directions that changes to Rue Beauvoisins. We should be consistent, and as there actually is a Rue Beauvoisine in Rouen, I suggest we use that.

In a couple of places in Act 2, on pages 28 and 29, Pinero refers informally to "Dolly” in the stage directions rather than Dorinda. Which would you prefer? I’ve recorded both and can easily delete one during editing, or leave in both as an option.

Beauvoisine, please.

Use Dorinda. Different characters can use different names for folks, but it seems the narration should stay constant.

Thanks, Todd

Well, as zis is gender neutral, I'd like to claim Margot, which should allow me to exercise my execrable Frenglish.
