Poems by Speranza, by Lady Jane Francesca Wilde (1821 - 1896).

Jane Wilde, the mother of Oscar Wilde, was an Irish poet who wrote under the pen name Speranza. She was politically active as an Irish nationalist, a passion which may be seen in her writing. Poems is a collection of her poetic works. ( Julian Pratley )

1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.

3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

   Set your recording software to:
   Channels: 1 (Mono)
   Bit Rate: 128 kbps
   Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
   .
7. DURING recording:
   No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
   Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording:
   START of recording (Intro)
   • "[Poem title], by Lady Jane Francesca Wilde. Read for LibriVox.org [by your name]."
   • If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
   
   Do not read the Roman numerals separating the stanzas of some poems.
   
   END of recording
   • At the end of the section, say:
     "End of poem. This recording is in the public domain."
   • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
     "End of Poems by Speranza, by Lady Jane Francesca Wilde. "
   
   There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.

8. AFTER recording
   Need noise-cleaning?
   Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The latest version of Audacity is recommended for noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.

   128 kbps MP3
   poems_##_wilde_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. poems_01_wilde_128kb.mp3)

This is my first time BCing. I think I know what I'm doing but may have some questions along the way.

I have a couple to start with:
Is my description ok? I don't really know what I should say.
The second half of the book is subtitled Wanderings through European Literature. How should this be included in the recording? Is it just said at the start of the following poem?

I’d also like to put myself down for sections 0, 1, 7, 90, and 92.

Just one opinion.
Intro - Probably okay. We don't need a long essay. If you want to characterize the poems in some way, you can Like saying the book starts with a dedication to Ireland and has two sections, Poems and Wanderings through European Literature.

And, I would have that heading read at the of the first poem in that section. I sometimes will just take that poem myself so it gets done, or you can notate it in the comments section of the MW.

And, you might want to edit the template to use the abbreviated disclaimer that we usually use for poety.

OK, your MW is ready.

It looks like you have already set up your MW password (because it looks like you have been a DPL). If not, instructions to log into the magic window are in the BC How-to; and this is a more detailed version of the First Login instructions (with pictures!) Please be sure to read all of the BC How To document, as that will give you more information on your role as a BC.

I like to have the full disclaimer read on the first poem - to set up the book that is being read from. I agree with Larry, sometimes it's easier to do the poems with something unusual in the intro yourself, so you might want to think about that for the first poem, or add the full intro to the MW with a note to the reader to use it for the first poem.

Please let me know if I can help with anything. You won't hear from me while the project is running, but I'm checking posts every couple of days and will step in if I see you need any support.
