A Journey Round My Room by Xavier de Maistre (1763 - 1852). Translated by Henry Attwell ( - 0)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/a-journey-round-my-room-by-xavier-de-maistre/
Sentenced to house arrest for forty-two days owing to his participation in a duel, Xavier de Maistre was inspired to write a travel memoir about the greatest journey a man can take. It is a journey which costs nothing, one which is equally well-suited to the "miserly or prodigal, rich or poor, young or old" -- even the idlest man will enjoy this "pleasure jaunt which will cost him neither time nor money." Come then: join Maistre in a journey round his room. (Steven Watson)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/journeyroundmyro00maisrich/mode/2up
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Steven,
If you will be reading each chapter separately then you will need 43 sections (0-42). Other than the preface they all look very short.

I’d be happy to DPL for you. It sounds like a fun, and somewhat timely, project.

Yes, I think I may end up grouping the chapters. Re DPLing, I would be very grateful for your help, thanks Linny! I think it's a great little novel, and yes, rather timely.

I'll set this up with 43 sections, and if you do group them, I can delete the extra sections. Be right back with the MW...

OK, you're set up.

As you're the soloist, you're in charge of updating the Magic Window.

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window can be found in the document linked here: Instructions for Soloists

Video showing how to use the Magic Window (read the above document first - it has the information on how to log in for the first time, which this does not have):
Magic Windows / Section Compiler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOP4tcr1kl8

I've entered the first three chapters for you as an example. You can fill in the rest and/or modify as needed

When you upload a chapter, put the file duration (mm:ss) in the Notes field and the uploaded URL into the Listen URL field, and mark it from Assigned to Ready for PL.

Holler if you have questions, and have fun!

Uploaded the first two sections, ready for prooflistening -- thanks again Linny.

I'm working out how to group the chapters as I go, have listed the first handful.

Slowly getting the hang of all this... Thoroughly good fun!

I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying it here at LV. :9:

I changed the column content a bit. Notes should contain the length of the file. This helps know that I have the right file and allows me to allocate the correct amount of time to PL. The last column, status, is a drop-down option for the file status.

Preface and section 1 are both PL OK. Wonderful start!

Wow, very quick, thanks! And thanks for helping with the magic window.

Now to get to work on the next 40 chapters...

Steven,
When you post a link for PL, please post a comment in the thread. It doesn't have to say much "section 2 ready", "another one", "hi", anything really. It makes it noticeable that there is something here I need to look at. Without any posting it could be days before I notice it.

Thanks,
Linny

No trouble at all. I wasn't sure how long you had been waiting PL.

Section 2 is PL OK.
