Mark Twain in the New York Times - Part Six (1910-1919) by Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/mark-twain-in-the-new-york-times-part-six/
This collection of articles by and about Mark Twain and his family was compiled by Barbara Schmidt, publisher of twainquotes.com. Included in Part Six of this chronological listing (1910-1919) are articles concerning his death, some of Twain’s short stories, speeches and letters, as they appeared in the New York Times in that period. The original microfiche articles are available at the New York Times’ “Times Machine” website: https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/browser/. ( John Greenman and Barbara Schmidt)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/browser
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): wordperfect

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):
    • "Chapter [number] of (SOLO) Mark Twain in the New York Times - Part Six (1910-1919). This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"(SOLO) Mark Twain in the New York Times - Part Six (1910-1919), by Mark Twain. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of (SOLO) Mark Twain in the New York Times - Part Six (1910-1919) by Mark Twain. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of (SOLO) Mark Twain in the New York Times - Part Six (1910-1919). "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename marktwaininthenewyorktimes6_##_twain_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. marktwaininthenewyorktimes6_01_twain_128kb.mp3)

Hey John -

Some corrections for you today - choose to do them or not :)

Section 4
1.11 – said "angina pectoria" – should be "angina pectorIS"
3:59 – repeat of the above

Section 9
0:27 – said "prostrated him on his voyage" – should be "prostrated him on THE voyage"

Small but word perfect like you want.... Also, you said pectoris correctly in sections after number 4....

Wow! That was LONG!

Just two things found during PL -

0:36 - :51 – no idea how you managed to do it however you have 2 recordings on top of each other!
25:56 – missing “first” as in “first literary adventure”
