How many of you (regularly?) google the people who have inscribed their names in a used book you now own?

Ughhhh I don't. I just think, "you know, maybe I should return this someday."

You are correct. It was a used book, you now own because the person who borrowed it has forgotten about it

I loaned a signed first edition to a student once. He has yet to return it, but I have decided a gentleman does not ask for a loan to be returned unless absolutely necessary.

A signed first edition! I'd ask for it to be returned.

I have, and use, this personal library checkout system:

https://www.amazon.com/Knock-Personal-Library-Kit-15000/dp/1601060726

I don't actually prescribe due dates or charge late fees, but I do make them fill out the checkout card, and they'll always know when they look inside the cover who that book really belongs to!
