The Queen of Appalachia by Joe H. Borders (1858 - 0).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-queen-of-appalachia-by-joe-h-borders/

A Lost Race novel set unusually in the eastern USA, where a civilization made up of descendants of early American pioneers has established an arcadian, monarchical Utopia supported by advanced Technology. ( )
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/queenofappalachi00bord/page/n5/mode/2up
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

It does work, I just wanted to check with you before I put your real name. Some people have a problem with that. Here is your catalog page! https://librivox.org/reader/13989

Since this is my first time recording for Librivox, I just want to confirm a few things;

At the beginning of my recording of chapter 3, I say:

"Chapter three of The Queen of Appalachia. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org. Recording by Felicia Wang. The Queen of Appalachia, by Joe H. Borders. Chapter 3, Paul and the Confidence Gang."

At the end of my recording of chapter 3, I say:

"End of Chapter 3. Recording by Felicia Wang."

Please let me know if my intro and end of recording is correct!

I also don't really understand ID3 tags. Is that something I need to add to my files?

And lastly, I just want to confirm the pronunciation of "Appalachia". I found two commonly used versions; "Appa-latch-uh" and "Appa-lay-shuh". From what i found, "Appa-latch-uh" is more formal but I just want to make sure I'm using the right pronunciation.

Thank you so much! :D

I might grab sections 4-6 as well. I've just recorded the first two and I'm kind of curious to see what happens next :)

Hi Felicia, your intro and outro are correct, although just to clarify it's up to you whether you want to include your name in either or both of them. Don't worry about ID3 - that'll be sorted out by (I think) the MC. Can't really help you with the pronunciation but I don't think it matters much as long as you're consistent.

All of the above that Julian said! The ID tags are filled in by the workflow system (the program that runs the Magic Window), so don't worry about those at all! As far as the pronunciation of Appalachia, pronounced it in the way that is natural to you. How I pronounce it will be different as compared to a Southern, and both are correct. I normally don't worry about pronunciation of words because they can be that different depending on where someone comes from.

That means this is going to be a fun listen, if the story is already grabbing someone! Sections 4-6 are yours, thanks Julian!

Hello, hopefully this isn't too aggressive or anything, but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missed. "No" is a fine answer too, but I saw some sections being confirmed for other readers after my post and just wanted to see what was up. Thank you!
