Progress report: I have my rough edit on chapter 2 down. Some level adjustments and my final self-PL are next. At the same time I could trim 1 second off the end of chapter 1 and resubmit it - if you'd like to spot-PL FIVE seconds of silence.

"By the..." in the book:
"By the stars" occurs 8 times in this book, while "By the craters of Luna" turns up only 6 times.
"By the rings of Saturn" and "By the moons of Jupiter" trail far behind with only one use each.

Just thought you would like to know.

This time the lads to quite a bit of whispering in the back of the room. There's a bit of shouting as well. My vocal cords are still clicking and crackling. Oh well.

I have my tracks recorded for chapter 4 - I'm trying to do a bit of recording interspersed with a bit of editing to see if that can speed things up a bit. I'm intending to add a bit of echoing PA effect in this chapter - we'll see how well that works.

Chapter 4 is almost ready, but I'm going to wait until morning to do an idiot check before I deliver it. This chapter will have a PA voice effect for the countdowns Booming Out Over The Launch Field. I hope you like it. In upcoming chapters I'm planning to have a 1950s intercom effect as well - a.k.a. fun with filters.

effects are fun to do but you need a very very light hand - people need to be able listen without fiddling with the volume control or reporting a damaged file, so do keep a copy of the original in case this one gets rejected.

I did try to keep it on the subtle side. I always keep my Audacity and/or MP3 files - as a reader or as a DPL - until the whole project is published. And as someone with pretty impaired hearing I'm always sensitive to dynamic range. I'll wait for Larry's verdict.

P.S. - sigh - coronavirus prep is taking way too much of my time.

Hey, great to have another chapter!

The echo effect is quite well done. It seems quite natural in this setting for the described sound of the PA announcements. So, well done.

At long last chapter 6 is ready for PL. (One would think that lock-down/lock-in would give me more time to record and edit. That doesn't seem to be the case.) But I keep plugging away at it. If you think my voice has a lot of strange clicks you should have heard it before I edited out the worst of them!

This chapter introduces Dr. Joan Dale - the only female in this book. Unfortunately for her, competence doesn't buy her any speaking role in this book beyond this chapter. No, all the adventurin' in the book goes to the lads.
