Hi and you may have those sections. Just listened to your t est and you do indeed have a very nice reading voice.
EDIT: Would you like a different name for credit in our catalog? Many of us use our real names but it is up to you.

Hello David. I will assign that section to you but before you record it please do your 1 minute test so that we know your technical specs are OK.
Here is a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlaRY_-bcfs. Your welcome email has lots of great information too. Please ask if you have any more questions.

Thanks. I have uploaded a newer version of my test piece, so once I get the green light I'll make a start on recording the chapter.

I don't see your test in Listeners Wanted. Is that where the link is? I will check it out asap.

Hope they're ok.

And, in for a penny, in for a pound.. since you don't have takers for the rest of the chapters, I'm happy to do those (9-13) if that suits?

Caro
All yours Caro. Thanks.

Could I clarify one detail about the beginning of each recording? The instructions say that this goes at the beginning:
"Chapter [number] of The Ladder of Rickety Rungs. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say:
"The Ladder of Rickety Rungs, by T.C. O'Donnell. [Chapter]"

So does that mean that I should say this?
"Chapter 8 of The Ladder of Rickety Rungs. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org. The Ladder of Rickety Rungs, by T.C. O'Donnell. Chapter 8"

It just seems a bit strange to say "Chapter 8" and the title twice.

Yes it does. But that is the way we have standardized it so that the listener knows exactly which chapter or part they are beginning. I actually just edited that intro to say "Chapter 8, The Cove of the Seven Swans" with the actual chapter name right before the start of the chapter. I forgot o change this but that is what I like to do, say the actual chapter name if there is one. Hope this answers your question; yes that is right, we say it twice. :D Glad you felt free to ask.

One practical matter with this recording and another general one:

Which pronunciation of 'papa' would you like me to use? There is 'PA - pa', or 'pa - PA'. I'm assuming it's the first, as that would be more common in the English language, but is there either a house form or a specific one you want me to use for this?

As for the general one, I understand from a PM I received that you have the administrative access to adjust my official page. When I was asked for the name I wanted to go by, I requested my full name, i.e. David Granville Young. However, it seems my page has been created with my shorter forum name. Is it possible for you to put my full name on the page?

Excellent questions David. Pronunciation is your choice based on the context and how you feel that day. Let your creative spirit flow. LibriVox has a refreshingly open policy on pronouncing words. Proof listeners are instructed not to comment however something is pronounced. Unless the reader expressly asks for this. If you think about it, this makes sense with people from all over the world reading and so many acceptable ways of saying things that I may think is wrong but actually is OK.
I will change your catalog name to what you wish however your forum name (DavidYoung) will stay the same. Image
