The Black Cat Vol. 01 No. 04 January 1896 by Various ( - ).
This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/black-cat-01-04-jan1896-by-various/
The Black Cat (1895-1922) was a monthly literary magazine, publishing original short stories, often about uncanny or fantastical topics. Many writers were largely unknown, but some famous authors also wrote original material for this magazine.
This is the fourth issue, containing the following 7 stories:
"In Solomon's Caverns", by Charles Edward Barns / "An angel of Tenderfoot Hill", by Frederick Bradford / "In Miggles' Alley", by Herman Brownson / "The missing link", by James Buckham (1858-1908) / "Unchallenged", by Katherine Morrow / "Aidu", by Hero Despard / "Mrs Emory's boarder", by C. Marie Mott ( Sonia)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

Claiming is restricted to one section per reader, to have the maximum of different voices in this project.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/stream/TheBlackCatV01no12189609/The Black Cat v01no04 (1896-01)#mode/2up
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

The fourth issue of the Black Cat is launched 8-) This time with 7 stories again which I am already looking forward to listening to.

As Nemo requested that I choose a story for him, I signed him up for Aidu. Enjoy the story !

I want to keep this as a one-story-per-reader-project. Having each story narrated by another voice worked really well in the previous issues. :9:

And now the project is open for claims.

There are a few too many similarities between me and the protagonist and the ending was as delightful as it was sad. It's just very appropriate.

I’m interested in claiming something on this page but I’m new and I can’t find the answer to this question. When something is assigned me, is it:

1) In digital format or paper (digital I assume)?
2) What is the format (ie Word, .pdf, .jpg, etc)
3) Can you read it before committing to it to see if it is the style of work that you like?

Thanks! I apologize if I posted this in the wrong area.

Hi Jack and welcome to this project :)

I see you have just passed your one-minute-test, so I'll gladly assign you any free section you want.
When something is assigned me, is it:

1) In digital format or paper (digital I assume)?
2) What is the format (ie Word, .pdf, .jpg, etc)
3) Can you read it before committing to it to see if it is the style of work that you like?
in the first post of each project you can find the link to the text we are reading from. Please only read from that source, as it's public domain. In this case here is the link: https://archive.org/stream/TheBlackCatV01no12189609/The%20Black%20Cat%20v01no04%20%281896-01%29#mode/2up It's under Point 4 in the first post

It is advisable to read the text before you claim, so you know what you are getting into and whether the text appeals to you ;)

In the Magic Window in the first post you can also see which sections are already claimed. The 4 sections that are still marked as OPEN are still up for grabs. Please note that in this specific project, I'm restricting claims to one section per reader. In other projects you can possibly claim more sections if you wish.

So, once you have decided on a story, please tell me the section number and under which reader name you want to run. Then I can open your personal reader page for you. Your reader name can be the same as your forum name, or something else. As you wish.

For correct intro/outro and file-naming, please also read the first post carefully.

Thanks and I'll be seeing you soon. :)

Can someone give me an example of the directions below. I’m kind of confused. I will use my name in the “recording by”

* Section [number] of The Black Cat Vol. 01 No. 04 January 1896. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
* If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
* Say:
"The Black Cat Vol. 01 No. 04 January 1896. Section [number]: [Title & author]"

Would this be correct?

Section 2 of The Black Cat Vol. 01 No. 04 January 1896. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For mor information, or to volunteer, please visit: LibriVox DOT org

Or is it

Recording by Jack Calloway. The Black Cat Vol. 01 No 04 Janurary 1896. Section 2: An angel of Tenderfoot Hill, by Frederick Bradford

Or is it all of the above?

If you go to the poetry section, it describes a slightly different way to record the intro. viewtopic.php?t=78428

Hi Jack,

here's the link to one of the previous compilations. The disclaimer should be the same for this one, I think - apart from the numbers of course :D

https://librivox.org/black-cat-01-02-nov1895-by-various/

Most projects I did so far have a slightly different disclaimer, so not to sorry about that, I guess.
