I don't have to imagine them - I went to Catholic school in the 60s and lived them. Most of them were fun to memorize. But the "punishment" assignment was memorizing huge chunks of Longfellow's "Evangeline."

Oh, and had my way paid to camp by memorizing four chapters from the Bible.
Good practice for my drama work in university, I guess.

PS 2: I loved Wordworth's lines about down time in the last stanza: "For oft, when on my couch I lie / In vacant or in pensive mood, / They flash upon that inward eye / Which is the bliss of solitude.." Ah, delightful!
