Prince Silverwings, and Other Fairy Tales by Edith Ogden Harrison (1862 - 1955).

This project is complete! All audio files are available on our catalog page:
https://librivox.org/prince-silverwings-and-other-fairy-tales-by-edith-ogden-harrison/

Edith Ogden Harrison's first published work, Prince Silverwings is a collection of seven fairy tales for young readers. It is perhaps best known as the source of an unsuccessful stage collaboration with L. Frank Baum, ultimately providing inspiration for several of Baum's Oz books. (Steven Fellows - reader)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/100488360
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

    • Say:
"Prince Silverwings, and Other Fairy Tales, by Edith Ogden Harrison. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of Prince Silverwings, and Other Fairy Tales by Edith Ogden Harrison. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Prince Silverwings, and Other Fairy Tales, by Edith Ogden Harrison. "

There should be ~5 seconds' silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename princesilverwings_##_harrison_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. princesilverwings_01_harrison_128kb.mp3)

Hi! I'll be happy to MC this for you. Back in a bit with your Magic Window.

edited: You're all set! Because apparently some HathiTrust texts are blocked in some countries, I've linked the version on Archive in the catalog (it's the same book scan so it doesn't matter which one you use to record from): https://archive.org/details/princesilverwin00harrgoog/page/n8 . I've also shortened the suggested file name that was auto-populated by the software. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Hi All,

Thanks for picking this up so quickly! I have updated the section/chapter titles; please let me know if anything else is required of me to move this to the "Going Solo" forum.

All looks good! I was just waiting to hear if it was OK with you for loon to PL, so I've entered loon as DPL (thanks for volunteering!) and have moved the thread to Going Solo. Have fun recording, and let me know if you need anything!

Chapter 1 is PL OK. Volume is in the middle third of the Librivox range, no hum/rumble, word-for-word perfect. We're off!

At 8:13, I hear "the young man's heart was touc by his father's grief" (rather than "touched by his father's grief") - an edit at this point? Can you make the edit better? (If not, it can pass.)

I'm marking the chapter See PL Notes for now. If you can make this change please re-upload and I'll do a spot check. If it's too difficult an edit let me know and I'll change the magic window to say PL OK.

Alsl - at the chapter end there are 6+ seconds of silence, but current LibriVox practices now tend to making the silence just 5 seconds. And yeah, the documentation doesn't say that. I was called out on the same thing last week on one of my chapters. File this under things to do in the future.

I like your voices for the characters, especially the demon. Imagine my shock and amazement when the veiled lady and Princess Martine turn out to be the same person!

Happy to make the changes! I did my best to enunciate the "ed" at 8:13, and I trimmed a second off the silence at the end. Let me know if anything else is needed.

I’m at a sci-fi convention for the weekend (without audio capabilities) - expect a PL Monday.

The revised chapter 2 and chapter 3 are both PL OK. Magic Window is marked.

I listened to the whole chapter 2 again, 'cuz it's a fun thing to listen to.

The folks in these stories don't seem to believe in long engagements - in each of these chapters the ending is more or less, "Wanna get married?" - "Sure, how about tonight!" (And they all lived happily to the end of their days.)

By the way, your volume in the 3 chapters so far is very consistent, yay! That will be nice for the listeners.

Chapter 4 - PL OK - a very nice reading!

Thank you - we're all trying very hard to stay safe here. My own LibriVox reading is falling a bit behind - a victim of crazy times - but I'm pressing on.

Stay Well.
