Volunteers outside the USA: H. R. Garris died in 1962. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955), UNLESS the rule of shorter term applies.

Once upon a time, not so very many years ago, there were two little monkey boys who lived with their papa and mamma off in the woods in a funny house at the top of a tall tree. These little monkeys were the cutest and most cunning chaps you would want to see, even if you went in an airship to the circus.

I have already told you something about one of them—a red monkey—who traveled with Uncle Wiggily Longears, when the old gentleman rabbit was going about, seeking his fortune. Well, this red monkey's name was Jacko Kinkytail; and his tail, as were the tails of all his family, was all twisted up in kinks. That's how Jacko got his last name—Kinkytail. His brother's name was Jumpo, and Jumpo was colored green. The reason for that was this:

Once Jumpo's mamma bought him a green balloon at the circus. Jumpo was a little baby then, and he didn't know any better than to try to eat the green balloon. Perhaps he thought it was candy. At any rate, before his mamma saw him he had chewed nearly half of the balloon, and he soon turned a pretty green color like the leaves on the trees. Oh! his mamma and papa felt dreadful about it, and they did everything they could to get the color out of the little monkey, but they couldn't, and green he stayed.

"But it doesn't much matter," said Jumpo's papa, "for as long as Jacko is red I think it is nice to have his brother colored green. They look so odd and queer when they go out walking together."

"Oh, but think of having one's children red and green, like some flag," cried Mamma Kinkytail. However, it couldn't be helped, so now I'll tell you some stories of Jacko and Jumpo. (from Chapter 1)

     Channels: 1 (Mono)
     Bit Rate: 128 kbps
     Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
  7. DURING recording:
     No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
     Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording:
     START of recording (Intro)

     Need noise-cleaning?
     Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The latest version of Audacity is recommended for noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.

     128 kbps MP3
     jackoandjumpo_##_garis_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. jackoandjumpo_01_garis_128kb.mp3)

I don't have word counts yet, but every story consists of 6 or 7 pages. I'm guessing recordings will be somewhere between 8-13 minutes long, just to give a general idea of what to expect.

As soloist, would you like to have MW access? I'm willing to operate it if that looks daunting, but Kristine could walk you through the steps if it's new to you. (It's rather enjoyable when once you've got the hang of it. ) You would be responsible for 1) posting the link, 2) entering the duration in the notes column, & 3) changing PL status to 'Ready for PL'. And simply posting in the thread that you have sections ready for me would be helpful too.

Unless you're sure you'd rather not, I'll propose putting you in and having you try it out. With me being in as DPL, I can always assist later if needed.

Right now, all I am doing is recording and accumulating the recorded chapters. In the book they are called "Stories." Would you want me to call them Stories or continue to call them Chapters? Do is upload them just as I have done before, i.e. individual or several stories and then copy and paste in the book site with times for each? In other words is the procedure for solo different in some way?

You can do it same as usual if you’d rather, but most soloists have MW access and paste the file links directly in the link column rather than posting them in the thread. ‘BC Admin’ right under the MW is where you’ll click to get in (don’t know if you have access yet or not). Like I said, either way is fine with me, but if you’re up to mastering another LV aspect, here’s your chance!

About ‘Stories’ vs ‘Chapters’- I don’t really care, whatever you’re doing is fine. Since it calls it ‘Stories’ in the book, that’d be kinda neat, but if you’ve recorded some intros with ‘Chapter’ I’m ok with leaving it.
