I could change the end, too. I don't know why I didn't think of it.

I'll do it tomorrow, okay?

Ah, I see! And, glad to get this one done.
So, could I back up and take Section 1?
Very moving in it's way. A lot of scripture references that I'll have to take care with, but that's good.
There is at least one issue. On pagek 16 there is a reference of III Kings xix:11. This is an obvious missprint, since it is actually I Kings. (how should I handle that, do you think? I would be inclined to correct it). And, some references are just Ib. or Ibid, which I would be inclined to just read as Ibid, or I could give the reference to which they refer. Then there are a few unfamiliar abreviations, like Apoc., that I'll try to look up. Still, a great piece to read.

Hi Larry

I think that the confusion lies in the fact that in Catholic Bibles the naming system is usually as follows:
1 Kings - 1 Samuel
2 Kings - 2 Samuel
3 Kings - 1 Kings
4 Kings - 2 Kings

I suspect that Apoc refers to Revelation (Apocalypse.)

This site gives the Catholic names of all the Old Testament books:
https://www.catholic.org/bible/

Another quirk (not related to this project) - in his translation of the Bible Ronald Knox renders the names Hosea as Osee and Haggai as Aggaeus.

Cheers

Hi Larry,

Certainly, Section 1 is yours!

As Algy said, some of the books in the Catholic Bible are named differently. So it is actually Kings III - I just pulled my Bible off to shelf to check that particular reference. :-) And Apoc. is definitely Apocalypse as Algy said.

As for Ib. or Ibid, please handle it the way you think is best. I trust your judgement on it!

Algy ~ thanks for the help!

Ah! I stand educated :D
I work for a religious book seller and we do get customers asking questions about Catholic Bibles, and I knew some of the differences, but this one had totally escapted me. I'll try to learn more. Thanks to you both.

ETA:
Okay, so the questions is, "What is the Catholic Bible?" We usually direct our inquires to the RSV Catholic Edition, or the New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE) and we get requests for the Jerusalem or New Jerusalem Bible and the St. Joseph Bible. All of these have the I and II Samuel and I II Kings. But, these, and other English translations, all came much after Pius X

So, The I-4 Kings comes from the Latin Vulgate, and the Douay-Rheims Bible which follows the Vulgate book order.

So, I was only half confused.

Also read a little about Pope Pius X much to my edification.
It will be a privilege to read his first Encyclical, so aptly titled.

I'm at a bit of a disadvantage not being Catholic myself. I deplore the willful ignorance we have worn like a shroud when it comes to the Catholic world. We have much to learn, and much to gain.

We could discuss the so-called Hebrew Bible and get even more confused!

Here is section 3, in which we find that things really do not change!

Could I also take section 4?

A very impressive speech:

Let me know if the intro is okay, and I hope I got the Scripture references right.

Oh, glad there's just one edit that I missed.
