Shores of the Polar Sea: A Narrative of the Arctic Expedition of 1875-6 by Edward Lawton Moss (1843 - 1880).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/shores-of-the-polar-sea-by-edward-lawton-moss/
"THE ARCTIC EXPEDITION of 1875 left England on 29th May, crossed the Atlantic to Davis Straits in a succession of storms, and entered the Arctic regions on 4th July. It sailed with orders to 'attain the highest northern latitude, and, if possible, reach the Pole.'" This is the story of the crew of the HMS Alert, on its voyage of exploration up the Baffin Sea and toward northern Greenland.

LibriVox volunteers wish to thank the volunteers of Distributed Proofreaders for their work over the last 20 years to convert public domain books into e-books. "Stories of the Polar Sea" was DP's 35,000th title. Congratulations and Happy Anniversary Distributed Proofreaders! (Summary by MaryAnn, LV reader and DP proofer).
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    .
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    .
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

Thank you for helping us to keep this project moving so we can get it in the catalog before Distributed Proofreader's 20th anniversary on October 1, 2020.

Do not read the summary of contents at the beginning of each chapter.
    .
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
    .
Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard
    .
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I'm sorry, but Leni already put in for Chapter 11. Is there another chapter that you'd like to read?

Section 18

https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/polarsea_18_moss_128kb.mp3 (10:43)

I left off that portion of the 'precis' that opens the chapter and that covers material in Section 19. I thought it might be best to open Section 19 with that material.

It's an easy matter to put the material in Section 18 in full if that's what you prefer.

Also, I used [chapter][part] in the intro and outro as I assume you desire. If I'm wrong, that's another easy thing to correct.

Thank you Kevin. Since you are doing both parts, I'm happy to have you split them wherever they made sense.

And I'll update the first post about the parts ... I started splitting chapters after cleaning up that langauge and I see I never went back to add the part reference.

Thank you Kevin. Sections 18 and 19 were wonderful.

One slight edit - could you delete the summary of contents at the beginning of the chapter? We won't be reading those.

Thanks.
