Ok, I listened to the entire Act 1 file for Florence again, since I couldn't be sure, but it seemed like this was a completely new recording.

0:01 I'm not actually sure how important this is, but I just realized that you read your role as "Florence McCrickett," instead of "Miss Florence McCrickett." Usually we want to read the role exactly as it appears in the MW. But this is a pretty minor omission, I think.
2:00 Missing line: "Ready?"
3:39 Missing line: "Which should show you that people are talking."
6:22 Three missing lines:
  • Not to speak of the innumerable changes of air that she’s enjoyed—
  • at your expense; and under your personal escort.
  • I have the day and date of the majority of them. So, you see, your chivalry is a bit trying, under the circumstances.
7:06 This pause can be cut. This is all one line.
9:05 Missing line: "as well as the consciousness of lots of company."

Please do not record the whole thing over again, as I suspect you may have done here. It amounts to much more work for you and for your proof listener as well. The chances of not making a single mistake in a second recording are very very low. For instance, some of the lines that are missing from this file were present in the first one. So only address the points I've outlined above. The easiest way is to start at the end and work your way backwards. That way, the time stamps won't change and it'll be very easy to find each problem spot.

Stage Directions

Worse than I feared :shock:
I was doing the clean-up edit tonight, making a list of little corrections to do, and got to 1 hour 26 minutes and heard "End of Act I" and looked at my script, and there are another 8 pages that I hadn't recorded at all. Gulp. I think I have a space to finish that up tomorrow, and will then try to get a final edit in, but that's at least another 10-15 minutes, or more. Now, I know this includes the gaps between lines, but this is still going to be a very long act.

Whew! And I thought Pinero was as long winded as stage directions could be.
Please record somewhere the words "part 1" and "part 2" so I can cut them in where I have to break the acts apart.
Guess maybe you should add the words "part 3" and "part 4" somewhere in case I have to have even more than just 2 parts!

I know -- who could outdo Pinero, right?

Well here is the whole thing. I recorded all of the stuff up front, so you will have it if you want it. At the end of the file are intros and outros for four parts to use as needed. Just ask if you need anything else.

I've done my best to submit a clean recording. I had to do it in multiple settings, of course, but I hope it isn't too uneven. There are a few differences in some prepositions here and there, but let me know if you think anything needs to be changed.

By far the longest file ever submitted for an LV project. :mrgreen:

Wow. And that is one act. (Yes, and a hard act to follow!)

You know, it wouldn't be the end of the world if we had different narrators for each act so as not to exhaust you. Not ideal but I've done it before, and it is less confusing than if we had different character readers. Take a look at the cast list for The Scarlet Pimpernel from shortly after I joined - 14 narrators and up to 4-5 readers on some parts:

Thanks, Todd, I appreciate that.
I do have Act 2 recorded, and I think it will come in at about an hour.
I have my script prepared for Act 3 (I color code all the stage directions) but haven't looked at it in a while. I'll let you know.
I may take a break and get some of my other parts in. Looks as if we have several major parts to go in this one.

I very honestly leave choice of accents and characterizations in ANY part up to the reader. One of the key pleasures of running a play here at Librivox is finding out what the various readers have decided is right. Usually some unexpected things, and always different than I had originally pictured the play on stage myself. So that the completed play is not my vision of what should be, but a truly new and exciting collaborative creation.
