Australia, New Zealand and Some Islands of the South Seas by Frank G. Carpenter (1855 - 1924).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/australia-by-frank-g-carpenter/

Travel stories of the land "Down Under" from 100 years ago. Native life and scenery and commerce of islands such as Tonga and Fiji as well as the bustling city of Sydney. ( BettyB)

  2. Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Betty,

Checking in. I'm away from home at a mini retreat, but will be able to set up your MW tomorrow when I'm home.

Looking forward to this one!

Betty,

Your MW is ready. Wow, that is quite a title! And I've made it even longer by staying with the approach we took on Alaska. So now it's Carpenter's World Travels: Australia, New Zealand and Some Islands of the South Seas.

For the file names, we can just use australia, and you can drop the Carpenter's World Travels in the intros. I did that so that folks would know in the catalog that they are part of a series.

And to emphasize the series nature of these books for the catalog, I've added Carpenter's World Travels to the titles for Scandanavia and the Holy Land.

And we are off! Looking forward to learning more about this part of the world - lot of countries in this area that I don't know much about as far as history or geography.

Betty,
You are PL OK through 3.
I love it when he relates things to the US - like the size of Australia, or the length of the Great Barrier Reef.

Betty,

Would you please check 34 for a pause at 3.19? It sounds a bit long to me, but it's your call.

Also, around 13.35, there is a throat clear.

I thought the bit on Stevenson was interesting. Didn't know that!

You are PL OK on the other sections.

Chapter 34 is tweaked and ready for spot PL.
And I think that wraps this one up nicely.
Hope you enjoyed it and thanks as always for heading up these projects!!

Off to the continent of Asia...
