Tales of Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, and all along shore. Eighty years ashore and afloat, or, The thrilling adventures of Uncle Jethro. Embracing the remarkable episodes in a life of toil and danger, on land and sea by Cornell, E. C by E.C. Cornell ( - 0).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/eighty-years-ashore-and-afloat-by-e-c-cornell/

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Phyllis,
I'd be happy to MC this for you. I'll get your MW set up.
My, what a mouthful of a title!

As an erstwhile "wash ashore" resident of Cape Cod, occasional visitor to Martha's Vineyard, and descendent of the one-time owners of Nantucket Island, I'd love go sail along as DPL, unless you have someone already in mind.

Thanks Larry. This is my first solo project, and I picked it, in part, because we've been going to the Cape for over 20 years in the off season and just love it. Should be a fun read.

MC will move this to the going solo forum.

You don't need to post the links here, but you do need to put them in the MW.
That's where I'll download them for PL. The file length is just a help for me when planning my PL sessions.
But do post here when you have uploaded something new so I'll get a note.

Larry, I'm not sure how to put them in the MW. In the past when I contribute a chapter, I upload the file and then post a link here along with the length of the recording. I've never put anything in the MW as the coordinator has always done that. I read the file on Solo Recording and it doesn't say to do otherwise. Can you advise me on how I should do this? Thanks.

MaryAnn, am I supposed to put the files in the MW? If so, I'm not sure how to do that and can't find any instructions in the Going Solo details.

Yes, well, my apologies. I was away for a few days, or at least away from LV.

So, I've added you to the MW.

For a solo project, you are the Book Coordinator. That means you fill out the Magic Window and post your links and times in the window when you upload your files.

You'll need to start by logging into the magic window. Instructions are in the BC How-to; and this is a more detailed version of the First Login instructions (with pictures!) Please be sure to read all of the BC How To document, as that will give you more information on your role as a BC.

Note that passwords for the magic window and the forum are not connected. You can use the same password in both places (I think a lot of people do), but if you change it on one system, it won't affect the password on the other system.

Next, you'll need to start entering section (or chapter) titles. I've entered the first couple to get you started.

Then you are ready to start recording. When you upload a section, it's your responsibility to add the link and duration (mm:ss) to the Magic Window. Link from the uploader goes in the "listen URL" column, duration goes in the "notes" column. Then be sure to post in the thread that a new section is ready for PL so Larry knows there is something new to listen to.

Larry, I think I"m now all set and have uploaded sections 1 - 7. Please let me know if there are any problems accessing the files, although it did seem pretty straightforward. Thanks!

Everything looks good, and I was able to listen to your first chapters just fine.
They are well read, and the only issue is volume.

Both 6 and 7 are beneath the threshold, being 84.9 dB and 85.3 dB.
The other are fine, but if you amp this up by 2 dB, they will be consistent with them.

Looking forward to hearing the rest of this interesting book!

Not too savvy on how to increase volume, but I think they are now in the acceptable range. Thanks for the feedback.
