How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Channels: 1 (Mono)
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
DURING recording: No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording! Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording: START of recording (Intro)

If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.

AFTER recording Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The latest version of Audacity is recommended for noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide. Save files as

Example ID3 V2 tagsID3 tags are now optional. They are added automatically during cataloging.

Please put the chapter titles in the MW. If Mary can't do the word counts, I can help you with that. At a quick glance, these chapters look quite long (for example, both chapter 1 & 2 are over 6000 words). Do you want to consider splitting any chapters over 5000 words into 2 parts?
Hi Joe, rather late here. I will put the chapter titles tomorrow. I don't split chapter under 10000 words, because splitting confuses the readers. I do it only if absolutely necessary. Thanks a lot,

I’ve been away for a few days so haven’t responded. I haven’t done word counts as a proof listener before. They were always counted before I started. I assume the word count is available on the document in text or Word format (or whatever is used) I will be glad to do the word count, if I figure out how.
Regarding chapter lengths, if a reader determines that a chapter is too long for one recording, can he/she request that it be split into 2 sections before they begin recording?

The easiest way to do word counts is with a browser plug in or extension that counts the words in any selection you highlight. You can cut and paste into Word and do them that way too, but it's a little extra effort that way. One of our volunteers posted another way that works with PG texts. I'll see if I can find the thread.
As for splitting chapters after all the sections are entered in the MW, it is still possible, but in a group project this requires using a and b in the filenames so as not to require renumbering all the subsequent sections. The intros and outros also would need to include part 1 and part 2 for any chapters that are split.

After that, please record the first chapter. If you get the hang of it, I will give you the intire book.

Whether or not Marty follows through to claim the whole book, you need to add the titles to the MW. Otherwise, I will have to move this thread out of the LaunchPad over to Book Suggestions until you are ready to move forward.
