Institutio Oratoria (On the Education of an Orator), volume 2 by Marcus Fabius Quintilianus (35 - 100). Translated by H. E. Butler
Marcus Fabius Quintilianus was of Spanish origin, being born about 35 A.D. at Calagurris. At Rome he met with great success as a teacher and was the first rhetorician to set up a genuine public school and to receive a salary from the State. He left behind him a treatise "On the causes of the decadence of Roman oratory" (De causis corruptae eloquentiae), some speeches and his magnum opus, the only one to survive to our days. His Institutio Oratoria, despite the fact that much of it is highly technical, has still much that is of interest to‑day, even for those who care little for the history of rhetoric. This second volume covers books 4 to 6. ( Leni)
Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated). Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording! START of recording (Intro):
Book [number] , Chapter [number] of On the Education of an Orator. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:

If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Only if applicable, say: "[Chapter title]"
END of recording:
At the end of the section, say: "End of [Chapter]"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
At the end of the book, say (in addition): "End of On the Education of an Orator, by Quintilian. Translated by H.E.Butler"
There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.

Going back to this project many years after having recorded volume 1. Looking for a DPL.
Leni, I think this is the English translation you are recording? If so, I'd be happy to be DPL. I'm actually trying to bring my Latin back from the dead via some poems on youtube and am in the mood for some more classical Rome.

Best,

Yes, I am reading in English! Maybe in the future I will read it in Latin, even though there are plenty other more fun stuff to read in Latin I can think of
Thanks for the PLing offer, I don't expect to have the first section up before the weekend, but we shall see. As we are in the middle of summer, I can't record during the day, I need the air conditioning off to record, which is not always easy with the temperatures we are getting.

Finally. section 1 is up. It started raining in the middle of the recording, and I stopped when it got harder. I hope it is not too disturbing.
