Almost done my first section, but had a question: is there an editorial line about what to do about the subheadings / applause breaks? Should we narrate them like stage directions, or treat the thing more like a more natural speech?

The text was more interesting than I thought it would be; Italy kind of gets left out of WWI's history a lot of the time, so the perspective was interesting. I wouldn't mind committing the rest of the open WWI sections 4, 5, and 6:

1st December 1917 ''To the Complete Vanquishing of the Huns''
24th February 1918 ''No Turning Back!''
24th May 1918 ''The Fatal Victory''

I'm not sure what the difference is between narrating them like stage directions and treating them like more natural speech.

If you're giving Mussolini some gusto, then be more neutral on the subheading and applause notations. If you're reading it pretty straight, then a slight pause, "Enthusiastic applause", slight pause, continue.

Make sense? I do want those parts read; it's a matter of how to convey them best to the listener.

I'll put you in for those other sections. Thanks! (And you only have to refer to them by their section number. That's what I use in the Magic Window to assign them.) :)

Are we supposed to do the introductory blurbs, or just the speeches themselves?

Section 4.

I'm kind of surprised at how generic he sounds. His WWI era writings don't seem at all atypical from what so many other Western leaders are spouting at the time: nationalism, anti-German sentiment, sadness at loss, an obsession with war effort, criticism of pacifism. If someone took out the Italian names and told me this speech was by Borden, Churchill or Joffre I don't think I'd be able to notice.

He gets more interesting later on, if 'interesting' is the word for it.

Section 4 PL OK!

Section 7:
0:40 - "Benito Mussolini, who on that occasion..." all this is repeated at 1:00
3:07 - a bit of a long pause between the speech and the "applause" - longer than the others.
