On The Trail: An Outdoor Book for Girls by Lina Beard (1852 - 1924) and others.

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/on-the-trail-an-outdoor-book-for-girls-by-lina-beard/

Lina and Adelia Beard, co-founders of the first American girls' scouting group, originally called the Girl Scout Society, then the Girl Pioneers, and finally as the Camp Fire Girls, provide practical advice and encouragement to girls and young women who wish to explore a "free, wholesome, and adventurous outdoor life." ( Christine Lehman, aka stoogeswoman)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/files/18525/18525-h/18525-h.htm
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

And *I* have a question -- I've never started a project before, and I don't seem to be able to do the "log in as BC/MC" to start setting up the sections in the MW. When I log in, it doesn't show this project anywhere. Can someone help me? THANKS!

No worries. You have to wait for an MC to come along and set up the MW before you can start typing in sections and things.

I'll MC this for you. Be back shortly to add your MW.

Since it sounds like this will be your first project as book coordinator(BC), you may find the following document helpful -

Instructions for BCs and DPLs

A version of the above is also in the LibriVox wiki in case you can't access Google Docs for some reason.

BCs - How to Update the Magic Window

Also, may I recommend shortening filenames to onthetrail_##_beard_128kb

If you have any other questions, let me know. I'll leave this thread here in the Launch Pad for a day or so longer before I move Readers Wanted, to see if a DPL (Dedicated Prooflistener) volunteers. Looking forward to working with you.

Thanks! Yes, I have looked through that, but got stymied at the very beginning. Twinkle88 cleared that up though. :)
And FWIW I think I did coordinate a book a while back (a solo project) so once the MW gets set up I think I'll be OK.

Sure, will do!

OK, got the sections set up in the MW! Now I'm trying to claim a couple of sections (00, 01) for myself, to start. If I don't get that figured out tonight, I'll do it tomorrow. However, all the other sections are available now so please start claiming! :D

 OK, KevinS, you've got Section 6! :D (You're welcome to take the other one too if you want - I can't throw stones at anyone's fashion sense! Let's just say it's a good thing this is audio, not visual! 8-) )

By all means! I wasn't sure if I should say "Section 0" or not, for example.
