The Black Cat Vol. 01 No. 02 November 1895 by Various ( - ).
This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/black-cat-01-02-nov1895-by-various/
The Black Cat (1895-1922) was a monthly literary magazine, publishing original short stories, often about uncanny or fantastical topics. Many writers were largely unknown, but some famous authors also wrote original material for this magazine.
In this second issue are included the following 8 stories:
"A Calaveras hold-up", by Roberta Littlehale / "From a trolley post", by Margaret Dodge / "An andenken", by Julia Magruder (1854-1907) / "The man from Maine", by J. D. Ellsworth / "A wedding tombstone", by Clarice Irene Clinghan / "The other one", by A. H. Gibson (1858-1929) / "Stateroom six", by William Albert Lewis (1856-??) / "Her eyes, your honor", by H. D. Umbstaetter (1851-1913) (Sonia)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.

Claiming is restricted to one section per reader, to have the maximum of different voices in this project.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/stream/TheBlackCatV01no12189609/The Black Cat v01no02 (1895-11)#mode/2up
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Since the first issue of this magazine is nearly finished, I will launch the second part right away. This time we'll even have 8 stories, so the magazine seems to have been popular for new writers to shine.

Like in the first issue, I want to keep this as a one-story-per-reader-project, as I love the prospect of having each story narrated by another voice.

Nemo already contacted me and absolutely wanted to take part in here and let me choose one of the stories for him. I hope you like your assignment, Nemo. I will certainly love to listen to it. :9:

The project is now officially launched.

Since I read a boat story in the first collection, may I read Stateroom 6 (Section 7) in this one?

Thanks, Todd

I am looking forward to finding out what a stateroom is. That word is not really familiar to me. I hope ghouls and ghost abound in there, Great to have you on board again, Todd. :9: Thanks for claiming.

Stateroom = passenger's room in a boat. Floating hotel room, if you will.

Thanks, Todd

I wikipediaed it in the meantime, yes, you are correct. So you are staying in the naval theme. 8-)

Hello, I am Eirena.
I'm new, however I would like to have you listen to my 1 minute test next week when I can record it and volunteer for your project. I am recovering from surgery and can't get to record until then. I am interested in helping out with the reading.
Best regards,
Eirena

hehe, I see you want to have the "last word" in this magazine as well ;) glad to have you in here again :9: The title sure sounds promising.

And thank you for the other section in Black Cat 1 :9: I gave you a few notes to take care of, but it was really a great read.

Hello Eirena and welcome to LibriVox and to this project in particular. I am thrilled that you selected this one as your debut in here. 8-)

Starting with a one-minute-test is of course best, then we can check whether all your technical settings are correct from the start. You can read about all the details in your welcome mail. Please post the test in a new thread in this forum: viewforum.php?f=21 (you can sample how the others in there were doing it). Me or someone else will check it for sure and give you feedback, and as soon as it's approved, you can start reading here.

For that though, you need to claim a section first, otherwise I wouldn't know which one to reserve for you. So please let me know which section interested you. In the Magic Window in the first post you can see that 3 stories are still up for grabs (but they may be claimed soon). Let me know which one you want and I reserve it unofficially for you and will hold it for you for one month. This will give you ample time to sort out the one minute test. Once you have gotten the ok, please let me know and you will get the regular two months deadline for completion of the section. :)

At that point I will also open a personal reader page for you, so please let me know under what reader name you want to be registered. Can be the same as the forum name or your real name or any other pseudonym.

And I hope your surgery went well and you are recovering soon. Good luck with the test.

Sonia
