Leave it to Doris by Ethel Hueston (1887 - 1971).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/leave-it-to-doris-by-ethel-hueston/

Volunteers outside the USA: Ethel Hueston died in 1971. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years).
The Reverend Mr. Artman is a widower of three years and is worried he might not be able to escape the clutches of Miss Carlton, his housekeeper, much longer. Luckily, if he dismisses her from his employ, he has Doris and three other daughters to run his household. ( )
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/60273
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Welcome to Librivox.
I see you have completed your 1 minute test
I have added you to the catalog. If you decide to change how you appear in the catalog, any admin can do that for you.
I have assigned chapter 2 to you. Please be sure to read the first post. All the information you need is there, but do ask questions if anything doesn't make sense.

Hello, I have an mp3 file to upload. In the instructions, it states "You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: lt - Lynnety". This MC does not exist in the drop down list. There is "lynnet - Lynnet". Is this the correct MC to use when uploading for this project?

Yes, that is correct. I’ll fix my typo.

Hello Lynnet,
I uploaded my mp3 file as
https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/Leave_it_to_Doris_Chapter_2_The_Problem.mp3

Let me know if you have suggestions for improvement.

You mentioned that I can change my name in the catalog later. I'm curious as to why I might do this? For now, I'm just using my librivox user name, lvjh. Do you recommend that I use a pseudonym? I'm curious as to what others do. Thanks for any suggestions you have.

Thank you. We have a Dedicated Proof Listener, who will check it for errors (repeats, stumbles etc. -- we all have them at times).

Initially, I am noticing the file name... it's not just me being picky. We really do need the file name to follow the rules. The correct format is in the first post. It should be leaveittodoris_02_hueston_128kb.mp3 Notice it is all lower case and there is a leading zero in the section number. Don't worry about it for now. If you have edits to make, please use the correct format when you re-upload. If there are no edits, I can fix the file name before I catalog.

As for your name... your forum name is pretty much set in stone. We do have someone who can change it, but you have to persuade her it's a good idea and it causes a lot of problems. An example would be MarySmith, who gets married and wants to change it to MaryJones. Or we did have one reader who used their real name... but somehow managed to misspell it!
Your catalog name is how you appear in the catalog and many people keep their forum name for that, too... it offers a degree of anonymity. However, if you want Aunt Agatha to find you, you might want to use your real name. A pseudonym would be between the two extremes... or you could use a nickname such as Bill for William, Betty for Elizabeth etc. Or, for example, my catalog name is Lynne T. This is what can be changed by any admin at any time.

Hello, lvjh. Welcome to LibriVox! I enjoyed your reading of chapter 2. Here are a few suggestions:

The volume is low. It's at 84.9 and needs to be between 86-92.
at 2:11 you read "...puzzled it over it..." The first "it" could be deleted.
at 18:04 "...all fixed up..." should be "...all mixed up..."
at 21:00 the word "What" is missing from the question "What did you have to eat?" (Personally, I would cut and paste the word from earlier in the text. Over time, we all work out our own editing tricks.

Peace be with you,
Sister

Hello Lynnet and Monaxi,
First apologies for the filename. When I first started, I used the correct format for the name. Perhaps through my editing process, I changed it. Oopsy. I will pay more attention in the future. After listening to the recording a few times to edit, I can't believe I missed so many obvious mistakes. Again, I will need to pay more attention. This is a good exercise in details! Thank you for your suggestions! No reason to change my name. I will leave it as is. lvjh

Hey y'all, I just wanted to let you know that I haven't ghosted y'all. I ran into some problems finishing another project and got delayed. Everything is recorded. I QA'd everything but I have to do a few pickups that I found. So y'all should get Chapter 1 by this weekend at the latest.
