Running a Thousand Miles for Freedom by Ellen Craft (1826 - 1891).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/running-a-thousand-miles-for-freedom-by-ellen-craft/
Ellen and William Craft were a married couple who escaped from slavery in 1848 when Ellen disguised herself as a white, literate man and William pretended to be an accompanying slave. This is their story of their escape to freedom.

NB Listeners may find some scenes of abuse and vocabulary in this book distressing. ( Newgatenovelist)
  1. Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/runningthousandm00craf/page/n6
    .
  2. Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard
    .

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thank you! This book reads like a thriller, and I'm excited to be working on it.

I will ask now, not at the last minute - is it possible to add William Craft's name to the metadata somehow so that it's also searchable by his name when the project is complete? I can include that in the summary and so on, but I don't know if that might make it as 'find-able' as possible.

I've added William to the catalog record, so he will show up as an author.

Hi Erin,

Section 1 is PL OK.

This should be good!

Hi Pam,

Section 3 is ready for PL. It keeps saying it will get onto the escape, but these preliminaries are more interesting than some 'main' texts I've read.
