Italian Hours by Henry James (1843 - 1916 ).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/italian-hours-by-henry-james/

A loving recollection of the writer’s experiences, over many decades, of Italian places, people and art. ( barbara2)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/italianhoursillu00jamerich
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Barbara,

Section 1 is PL OK.

Very timely for me as I am working on a two-hour talk on St. Mark's.

Very interesting, Pam. Tell me more. Just reading about St Marks made me want to go back. My memories of it are very dim. Have you watched this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJIwFO9A1f8

Hi Barbara,

No I haven’t. Thanks for the link.
I don’t think I ever set foot in St. Mark’s despite two short visits to Venice. But now I am becoming an expert.

How is the talk about St Mark's coming along?

This section revived long-forgotten memories. Oh, and Wikipedia's entry for “The Family of Darius before Alexander” quotes Henry James on this painting. But our author, alas, didn't have access to Wikipedia and misremembered the pantaloons.

Hi Barbara,

Section 2 is PL OK.

My talk is complete; just doing some final polishing.

Yes, James would have had a field day with Wikipedia.

Delightful section!
