The Red Reign: The True Story of an Adventurous Year in Russia by Kellogg Durland (1881 - 1911).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-red-reign-by-kellogg-durland/
Kellogg Durland spent a year in Russia as a journalist in 1906, during a seminal period in Russian history. This is a highly interesting read, knowing as we do what fell out for Russia in the next decade. The Russian Revolution did not appear from nowhere in 1917. Durland's account shows the rumblings that existed before the explosion. ( Lynette Caulkins)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    .
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    .
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    .
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text: The fine folks at Project Gutenberg have worked hard to produce this text there for us, and they have already finished! So if you prefer to read from a format that is easier to find your start spot, here is that link: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/61557 <~~
    (Archive book view: https://archive.org/details/redreigntruestor00durl/page/n10)
    .
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
    .
For this Project: Please do not choose sections out of order, and not more than two at a time. I am trying to preserve a high sense of continuity. Come back as often as you like, though. :)
    .
Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard
    .
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

  8. AFTER recording
    Need noise-cleaning?

    128 kbps MP3

(You don't need to do the ID3 tags)
Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    .
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader
      Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)

    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.
    .

I will DPL, except the chapters I record (for which I will advertise when necessary).

Also, I am dedicated to keeping this project from taking longer than a year.

It's likely my thick head, but I don't understand your directions about consecutive sections.

Ha, Kevin, it's not just you .... include me in this camp! :D

Also, the text link does not work for me ,,, instead I get a message on the Hathitrust site that: "This item is not available online ( Limited - search only) due to copyright restrictions" ...... can you view it?

I have full view of the book. I can also download a pdf version, though I haven't yet done so.

There are two scans on Archive:

https://archive.org/details/redreigntruestor00durl/page/n10
https://archive.org/details/redreigntruestor00durauoft/page/n10

I would use one of those instead of Hathi. That way everyone should be able to see the text. :-)

Thanks, Maria. I would think this is good for everyone - published in 1907, author death 1911.

I'll fix things with the link and the instructions when I get back to a computer. Everything's too tiny on the phone. :)

Section 0 is uploaded. I will advertise for pinch-hit PL work when I have all my sections uploaded (as I'm the DPL for this) :)
