Hello,
I appreciate your willingness to read the above sections. I ask that you only choose one of those to read as the limit in this thread is 6 sections per person and I see you have already claimed 5. Please let me know which is the next one you will read?
Hi, again.
I'm not trying to be argumentative, but how are we to know that there is a limit for this project?
I do NOT see this in the MW where one would expect any special instructions to be. If that is there, it is not clear enough for me to find, and that's the only place where it could properly be. I've followed this thread, more or less, from the beginning, and I don't recall seeing this stated. But, one can't be expected to read through every post to find it. This just completely blind sided me, so I'm just trying to understand. I certainly would not have even made the claim if I had been aware of this. So, I'd just like some clarification.

I'm not upset, except at myself for not following procedure, but I think it is an important issue to shed some light on.

~Larry
Good morning to you Larry,
Please do not be upset with yourself. You see, I am still "learning" so it is I who should apologize to all the readers, yourself included, and I am sorry for my lack of having the limit of poems posted at the beginning so there would be no confusion. Now, I will ensure in future threads that the facts are posted.

Good morning Rachel,
The silences are wonderful, great improvement.
The levels of background sound is still off though. I am relatively new at this (I have been reading audio for a little over 2 years & have recently decided to venture into being Mc & posting my own threads) so bear with me please. I ask that you do one more time with noise reduction. That can be an effective tool. One more question for your Rachel, do you have the "checker" on your laptop? I find that also is helpful to be able to "see" where problems might be in your file.

I do think they are PD in the UK as well. :hmm: I will mark them as yours to read.
It has been mentioned to me just how PD status is in many areas. Unfortunately my mind did not retain all of that. Upon further research here is an article that may be of assistance. The author passed away in 1922, 97 years ago. Seems to me the works are PD.

This is from the LV site:

NOTE: As the LibriVox server is located in the USA, US laws apply. Under US copyright law, books published before 1924 are in the public domain. Other countries are governed by different laws - for example in Europe, copyright exists for 70 years after the author's death. - There are several Gutenberg Projects outside the US. You may only record works from them for LibriVox if they were published before 1924.

correct, April. Under European law, the author has to be dead at least 70 years to be PD. So this author definitely passed that limit. :)

Hi,
Thanks again. I did another round of noise-cleaning on all of these. I do have the checker, but I didn't see any information about the background noise. I ran all of these through and it said they all passed. However, taking a second look, I can see that, as you pointed out, there was an obvious problem with background noise on those recordings, especially Section 35. Am I perhaps missing something with the Checker? I only downloaded it about two days ago so I'm very new at it.
Anyway, here they are:

maybe your Checker parametres are wrongly set.

> I would recommend ticking the "Gentle" box
> then open "Choose validation methods" in the same tab
> tick all the boxes except the ID3 metadata. I suspect maybe your "Background Noise" box wasn't ticked, that's why Checker didn't check the noise level
> press "change" to validate

now next time you run Checker, you should see in the "Information" tab at the bottom that the Noise level is pointed out. Checker will "fail" the file if the noise goes over 50 dB I think. But I would always use my own ears to listen in and check whether it's really disturbing, regardless what the program says.

I hope that was of help :)

prosengine wrote: December 8th, 2019, 3:53 pm Here's the updated sections 14-17 with all the extra silence as you've asked adr6090. Never though that I'd have to add more, but it should all be updated now.
And since the limit is 6 per person, I'll let someone else also get a chance to record.

Section 14 (00:25)
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/cobwebsfromalibrarycorner_14_bangs_128kb.mp3
Section 15 (00:29)
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/cobwebsfromalibrarycorner_15_bangs_128kb.mp3
Section 16 (00:21)
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/cobwebsfromalibrarycorner_16_bangs_128kb.mp3
Section 17 (00:28)
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/cobwebsfromalibrarycorner_17_bangs_128kb.mp3
All sections are now PL OK

Thank you! And if you ever wish to record more, you’ll be welcome!

Hold off a little to change anything. We’ve gotten a few ready to mark PL OK, but my notes are slightly scattered at present. I’ll likely be posting sometime tomorrow to let you know what’s what. In the meantime, have a restful night! You’ve done a great job on perfecting these files, and I promise you all of these will soon be ready to call good to go.
