The Village in the Jungle by Leonard Woolf (1880 - 1969).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-village-in-the-jungle-by-leonard-woolf/
Woolf wrote this novel based on his experience as a government agent for British imperialist-controlled Ceylon in the early part of the twentieth-century. He focuses his story on one poor family in a jungle village as they struggle to survive, not just faced with a very harsh environment but with their own human prejudices, superstitions, jealousies, violence, ignorance, and greed. In the background is the other enemy: the foreign government that controls them but does not really understand or care for these uncivilized, not really human beings. It was an important work because its point of view was sympathetically a native one. JL

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Let me know if any changes are needed. Shall we advertise for a DPL? This is PD only in the US.

Thanks Craigdav---It's nice to get good feedback. After I've listened to something half a dozen times it's hard to evaluate by the time I'm finished. :)

Thanks for trusting me to get my current book in. It will be finally submitted by the end of the day. Let me see if my former DPL is interested in the Woolf book. It's extremely dark, and she might not want to do this one. Plus, it might not even be legal---not sure where she's located. Will get back to you soon. SC :?:

Hi Cheryl. I hope you get this. I would pm but tech difficulties so I’m on mobile. My computer broke (literally) so I’ve lost ch 1 and when we get over the flu (yes we got shots) I’ll get audacity reloaded on new computer. I’m sorry to keep you waiting but after Xmas or even Jan 1 would be a realistic prognostication. I’m not too good using the forum on phone so I hope you get this. Hoping your Christmas is most excellent! SC
