Was wondering if I could take Sections 14,15,16, & 17?
It's nice that these are bite sized poems, so it wont take long.

Here's for Sections 14-17

Section 14 (00:21)
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/cobwebsfromalibrarycorner_14_bangs_128kb.mp3
Section 15 (00:27)
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/cobwebsfromalibrarycorner_15_bangs_128kb.mp3
Section 16 (00:28)
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/cobwebsfromalibrarycorner_16_bangs_128kb.mp3
Section 17 (00:24)
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/cobwebsfromalibrarycorner_17_bangs_128kb.mp3

Let me know how they sound, and if it's all good, I may be interested in claiming some more, as they're quick and easy to do (and the editing doesn't take hours  )

Hello,
I did just listen to your recorded sections and you have a very smooth voice and they sounded wonderful.
I do have a some edits for you nonetheless.

There are areas that need more silence.
section 14: 4 more seconds of silence at the end
section 15: 1/2 second of additional silence at start with 1 second more at the end
section 16: 1/2 second of additional silence at start & 1 1/2 seconds more at the end
section 17: 1/2 second more silence at start with 3 seconds more at end
I do promise that I am not just picking on you and as the limit for a person allows for that person to read 6 sections on thi thread I do encourage you to claim 2 more and keep in mine the amount of silence that is mentioned in this thread. Thank you!!

Hello,
I have listened to your audios and your voice is quite beautiful. I do have edits for you though.
section 33 needs 05 second more silence at the start and end needing 1/2 more silence as well
section 34 needs no additional silence
section 35 is only needing 1/2 second more silence at the end
section 44 needs 1/2 second more silence at the start with end being 1/2 second more needed too
section 45 1/5 second silence more at start and 1 second more at end

Your volume has me curious as to whether or not you use the checker so you know what a specific audio is at?
Your volume ranges from 84.3 to 87.2
I also see, using checker again, that your background sound is from 37.8 to 41.8

It has been mentioned to me that the preferred audio level is 89.0 with the preferred background level being 24.2

I honestly do not hear background sound or high volume on your recorded sections. :hmm:
I also understand that with so many different listening devices it is best to stay as close as possible to the
preferred levels.
I am not trying to cause any personal angst for you though I do wonder if you use checker?

Hi,
Thank you for your feedback. I can easily add the silence to these recordings. However, I'm not sure what to do about the volume of the recordings and background noises, as I'm very new to Audacity. I do not use a checker either, but if you recommend it, I can start doing so. I have the microphone volume set to 89.0, but sometimes I speak very softly. Do you have any advice regarding how to fix the volume issue?
Best,
Rachel

Here's the updated sections 14-17 with all the extra silence as you've asked adr6090. Never though that I'd have to add more, but it should all be updated now.
And since the limit is 6 per person, I'll let someone else also get a chance to record.

Section 14 (00:25)

Section 15 (00:29)

Section 16 (00:21)

Section 17 (00:28)

Here’s the link for checker:
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker

I don’t think the background hum is too distracting, but if you’d like to check into the source you might be able to avoid some of it for later. I’m guessing it’s your computer or something in that line. Sections 34 & 35 are where I noticed it most.

As far as volume, section 44 is the only one outside of the range at 84.3 dB, but section 35 could use a boost (86.3 dB) and also section 45 (86.9 dB).

I don’t have time right now to give instructions, but if you look at Phil’s videos you should find what you need to help you. Holler if you need help finding that!

Hi Rachel,

I'd recommend getting your hands on the Replay Gain Plug-In for Audacity, it's a nifty function that makes your recordings up to the necessary volume of 89.0 dB and it's fairly easy to get. This forum even has a separate post specifically dedicated to it.
Here's the link: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Measuring_Volume_within_Audacity

Video on how to install it by our very own philchenevert

As for background noise, select a section of your recording where there's only background noise, and use the "Noise Reduction" options in the "Effects" Tab. Then select your whole recording and again repeat the process by going to Effects>Noise Reduction and that should help with cleaning it up background noise.

I think I fixed a long-standing problem I've had with my microphone, which may have been causing these issues. But before I go back and actually fix all five recordings, I'd like to make sure I'm on the right track. Could you let me know whether this fits within all the parameters:

I checked out the poem, and I think in this case, so that it rhymes, "ell ess dee" is indeed a good way of pronouncing it.

April, I see you are PLing here. Did I miss some change ? Are you the DPL now instead of Rosebud ? Let me know and then I change the credit in the MW. Also regarding volume: 89 dB is indeed the preferred average, but we accept from 86 - 92 dB. Anything under that needs to be amplified, anything over the limit needs to be decreased.

Sonia
I will be on vacation from Wednesday 27 March till Sunday 14 April
and unable to PL during that time. Thank you for your patience.

Hello Sonia,
You did not miss a thing I stepped in to assist Rose with pl ing certain sections and I think I shouldn't have put my 2 cents in. Rose and I are communicating and it will remain as it started. You as MC, me as BC & Rose as Dpl.

Hello,
I appreciate your willingness to read the above sections. I ask that you only choose one of those to read as the limit in this thread is 6 sections per person and I see you have already claimed 5. Please let me know which is the next one you will read?
