Tropiquillos by Benito Pérez Galdós (1843 - 1920).

This project is complete and all audio files can be found at https://librivox.org/tropiquillos-by-benito-perez-galdos/

( Emilio Herrero)

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello Emilio! Exciting that you are starting your first solo! I am happy to MC it.

Let's use this as a source https://archive.org/details/lasombracelntrop00prez/page/210 because it is safer for Librivox, as it is a scan and it includes the page with the copyright information.

Here is the Spanish disclaimer that you can use:

We have a Magic Window, and you will have access, once you create your "workflow" profile.

Please follow these steps for accessing and updating the Magic Window. https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window
First do "Accessing the System – First Time Login"
Then read the "Editing the Magic Window from the Section Compiler Screen: Filling in the Magic Window" section, on how to fill in the Magic Window, with Section/Chapter titles, and file links, etc.

And please ask if something is unclear!

Nice! Yes, as a soloist, you are your own Book Coordinator, so you update the Magic Window every time you upload. I've done the first one as an example. Did you create your "workflow" login to have access to the Magic Window?

hello Emilio

I can DPL this, looks like a nice short project. I had a listen to your first chapter and it's word perfect  And your reading is very clearly understandable and not too fast for me to follow along. Very well done.

I only have one single note to correct, more a technical thing:

> at the beginning you leave 3 seconds of silence. We recommend 0.5 - 1 second maximum. For a listener anything over 2 seconds is very long, and and especially at the beginning, people will start to wonder whether there was something wrong with the audio ;)

> another thing I noticed is that your volume is quite on the upper accepted limit with 91.9 dB. It's accepted, so nothing to change now, but don't get any louder, and 2 dB less would even be better. The risk of clipping and distorting your audio is also higher if your recording is louder, that's another reason why you should try to get the input volume a bit less loud.

apart from that all is well :) good start.

I will check the other sections tomorrow, I am a bit pressed for time today. But I wanted to make a start already. :)

thank you, Rapunzelina :)

and I checked the other two chapters as well. Excellent readings

I do have a few small notes to add though:

for Chapter 2:

> at the beginning: also here, please only leave about 1 second of silence at the beginning, you have 4 here
> at 4:26: and at the end please insert the standard 5 seconds (you barely have 3 here)

for Chapter 3:

> this time the volume is much too loud, almost reaching 94 dB. Please decrease volume by -4 to get to a good average of about 89 dB
> again at the beginning, please only leave about 1 second before you start the intro
> at 2:33: (p. 217) missing part of the sentence (underlined) : "Oh, mestre Cubas, cuántos recuerdos vienen á mi memoria!"
> at 3:07-3:10: between "el mar por losa" and "no, repliqué" – a pause of over 2 seconds feels too long for a listener, you get easily thrown out of the story. I would try to keep pauses down to 1 - 1.5 seconds maximum between paragraphs.

thank you
