Cobwebs from a Library Corner by John Kendrick Bangs (1862 - 1922).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/cobwebs-from-a-library-corner-by-john-kendrick-bangs/
This is a book of 57 sections divided into 2 parts. The first part is comprised of 26 poems & the second part concludes with 31 assorted stories & otherwise. John Kendrick Bangs had been known as a jokester & prankster; was also known to be the editor of Puck, perhaps the foremost American humor magazine. Take a peak and see how you end up with a grin on your face and in your heart as well. That is honest Bangsian writing.( AR)
There is a limit of 6 poems per reader.
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/27534
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I’m interested in serving as DPL, and will gladly assist you in getting started!

I counted the poems- 57 in all. Some of them are very short (some having only one stanza), so I would think the shorter ones could be grouped according to length with up to 5 in one section. I’m guessing 35 sections to be about the maximum of what will be wanted, but the MC will be able to give advice on how to handle that.

Another thought, you’ll probably want the shorter LV disclaimer for all but the first section.

Hello Rosebud,
I happily accept your offer to assist me in getting started. I would like to read the first and last sections for certain. It is not the opportune time now as the eve draws late, for me at least. I will sign back on tomorrow so let us get this figures out more than. :D

Hi April :)

I can MC this, poetry is always nice and I remember that Bangs was really funny in a stage play I participated in. I see we already have a DPL, so all is ready to get started. I'll be back with a MW as soon as possible.

I do have a question though, so how many sections do you need ? You wrote <100, but this is not precise enough to start a MW. :hmm: I'll wait for confirmation.

Also concerning your introduction, you wrote "The first part is comprised of 26 poems & the second part concludes with 31 assorted stories & otherwise." Do you have a link to this second part ? I see only poetry throughout the whole book, no short stories. Did you insert the correct link ?

Sonia
I will be on vacation from Wednesday 27 March till Sunday 14 April
and unable to PL during that time. Thank you for your patience.

Well thrilled I am that you will be my mc!!
I did edit the <100 by replacing it with description you mentioned.
The second part has long sections so I beleived they could be deemed "stories", sorry if that just means they are longer poems.
I suppose my description can be changed.
58 sections should do the trick.
Thank you Sonia,
April

April- Are you getting the number 58 from my count, or are you including some other sections? I hadn’t noted the numbers you have in the introduction, and counted the titles. But I found my mistake- one title takes up 2 lines, and I counted both lines. So your 57 is correct.

Sonia- About the 2 parts of the book, the first section is titled ‘Bookish’ and the second ‘Wise and Otherwise’. ‘Wise and Otherwise’ is also poetry, but a lot of the poems tell a story.

ah I see that, yes, I would still qualify them as poems. Narrative poems, but still, not really short stories.

Ok I created the MW now with 56 sections. You can fill out the section titles. If you need more, April, you can quickly add some sections. So do you want to group some small poems into one section ? Because then our intro disclaimer is ok like this.

So I guess I can move us to Readers Wanted now.

Have fun, all of you. :)

46, 47, and 48, please. (I hope I have counted correctly!)

Will we be using the longer intro for all the poems?

no, if April is grouping some poems together into one section, it's best to say "section ##", because with the short intro we usually just say the title of the poem, but if there are many poems in one section, that will be confusing
