06 is done!

06 has a TYPO of the Captain's name...

It SHOULD be Captain Moreland, according to websites....The NYTimes article eventually gets it right, but it starts out with the incorrect name, several times.

I'm going with the correct name from the start!!

Hi John -

Just some minor things for Sections 5-10 - Sections 6 and 10 are PL OK!

Section 5 - needs to be noise cleaned - I am getting 46 dB of background noise. You normally are in the 35-37 range.

Section 7 - 4:17 = I heard Canucks - should be Kanacks. I know who the Canucks are is as I live in Vancouver :) They are not KanACKs....

Section 8 - did not read title again at beginning after you said your name.

Section 9 - :31 S/B Samual J Clemens - not Samual L Clemens. Kind of important as he is the subject of the book :)

I'm not familiar with this process....
I don't know how to clean out background noise
:-(

if it's not too bad...maybe we can leave it....
If there are particularly bad places...I could RE-do them???

I'm making an editorial decision to CORRECT the New York Times typo!!

It SHOULD be "L"!

:-)

I've corrected 7 and 8 and sent them in

Hi John - Here are the instructions for noise cleaning - it is really simple, however I am fine with you leaving it if you want. Just let me know what you wish to do.

In Audacity, select Effect > Noise Reduction. When the window pops up then click on the button Get Noise Profile. At this time your whole recording will be highlighted - the system will do this.
So, once it finishes getting the Noise Profile, go again to Effect > Noise Reduction and enter 3, 3.00, 3 and the bullet in Replace and select OK. This will reduce your noise by 3 decibels. The first 3 you can play with - I leave the other 3's alone usually. If you have more noise to reduce then I will go to 6 as the first number. Your recording only needs a 3 and then press OK.
That will then run through the noise reduction process. When I do the above (with the 3, 3.00 and 3) on the Section 5 file, it comes back in line with the other ones and I get a Pass in the Checker app.

Hi John -

Sorry for the delay - I am at a friends place in Seattle and her internet went down/was only intermittent.

As for the checker - it is what is used to check the files submitted for PL to see if they meet the LV criteria for noise, the technical settings, volume etc. I can generally tell a recording by volume now if it is too loud, however sometimes I do test recordings for noise when I think there is extra feedback. It is just a habit I get into. I always check my own recordings prior to uploading them as I rotate between 2 mic's and each one provides a different recorded volume. It gives 3 status - Pass, Pass with Warnings and Fail - you look at the tab to find out when you get the latter 2 on what to fix - it will give you a message.

Here it is - it is for a PC -
