.I fear that .I have made you self-conscious and for that .I apologize. .Your recording of .Letter 2 is quite satisfactory. .Quite good, actually. .I did not mean to be fussy and .I do wish that you not worry about the little bit of 'fuzz' one might hear at a higher volume.

.My editing only gives a marginal improvement.

.I will have a look for a video that shows how to work noise reduction filters, as .I am not the best teacher and perhaps a visual demonstration will be best.

.Please keep recording. .You are doing a wonderful job with this project and, should you wish, you can always return to do a better cleaning.

.I must say that this recommendation is not one other .BCs would appreciate, perhaps. .Most like the initial recording to be 'complete' as it were, but here we are talking about noise reduction and not the editing of text. .I see no problem with this.

.I will do some research.

.One point that has me confused, .I admit, is that your noise reduction filter seems to have reduced your recording's volume. .That should not be the case. .I'll look into that. .That might be a clue.!

.Again, don't worry.! .And don't let my fussiness affect you.

Don't hesitate to ask question should you wish. I'm here quite a lot.
Hi, Kevin,

Firstly, I have replaced the Letter 1 file with yours: https://librivox.org/uploads/kathrinee/lettersonengland_01_128kb.mp3 (14:46). The MW is updated.

I then managed to do some experiments, using both FLAC and MP3 files, and the results seem the same (below are the details). None of these can match with the file Letter 1 polished by you: it seems that the "fuzz" in the background just came back persistently whenever I amplify, the larger value I amplify, the more "fuzz" seems to be restored after the noise reduction.

The Introduction file I uploaded initially should be quite consistent with the Letter 1 file based on which you achieved the extraordinary result, whereas the Letter 2 file uploaded initially has gone through different adjustment including Compressor, Normalising, Amplify (6~7), and twice noise reduction (12-6-3 followed with 4-6-3).

Letter 2:
Setting 1 - noise reduction 16-14-6, followed with amplify 2: volume test result 79.6dB;
Setting 2 - same noise reduction as above, followed with amplify 12 (allow clipping): 89.5;
Setting 3 - same noise reduction as above, followed with amplify 10 (allow clipping): 88.5 which is closer to your file of Letter 1.

Introduction:
Setting 1 - noise reduction 16-14-6, followed with amplify 2 (allow clipping): volume test result 82.1dB;
Setting 2 - same noise reduction as above, followed with amplify 8 (allow clipping):88.1

I am not uploading the new files for Letter 2 and Introduction as they are not improved so much in terms of the "fuzz" background noise. I must have missed something fundamental in your tips, e.g. the Audacity setting. The challenge is that after hearing the file you polished, I can no longer accept what I produce... :hmm: so please :help: Much appreciated.

While waiting, I am working on editing Letter 3, which gives me a clean slate to follow your instruction. I shall write today/tomorrow once I finish.
.Not to worry.! .I will have a look after .I get my keyboard fixed.! .For the first time in my life .I spilled my coffee while working. .Now my keyboard has a faulty shift key.

Were you laughing at me so much that you spilled the coffee?! :lol:

Phil is one of the great resources for LibriVox. He makes instructional videos and this link may assist you: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Instructional_Videos#Noise_Removal

I've figured it out, Kevin! :D

I realised that I have selected the whole track before I followed the steps for Noise Reduction. In retrospect, it didn't make sense, but I am not sure what got into my mind. I am so sorry to have wasted your time. All I can do to make it up for you is to guarantee the quality matching your sample Letter 1. :wink: So here we go....and the MW is updated accordingly. Letter 3 will follow shortly.

Letter 2: https://librivox.org/uploads/kathrinee/lettersonengland_02_128kb.mp3 (7:11)
Introduction: https://librivox.org/uploads/kathrinee/lettersonengland_00_128kb.mp3 (7:07)

Also, I would like to go back to my readings for Life of Luther and upload the revisions. I am afraid it might have to take you additional time to spot PL them. Much appreciated. Cheers.
