Thx,

It is! It actually just opened up again a couple of days ago, so it's all yours:) Before you read, look at the pronounciation notes in the first post, and in particular be aware of pronouncing "francs" or any of the names in the book. It will save both of us some work, and it's allready a pretty big job to do. Let me know if you have any quiestions:)

Kristin, I was going to do two more chapters for you before the weekend, but our insane weather changes this past fortnight have killed my voice. Hopefully it'll only be a few days before this gunk clears up.

Since I just came on board, I wanted you to know I'm committed to timeliness on these, and will not fluff off on you..

Narrator chapter 16 is PL OK! I'm only missing a "Narrated by..." at the start. You can add that to the next chapter:)

Checking back in for Luois XVIII.
I'll do new recordings and get them in as soon as I can.
On the road again, so delays are possible

Awesome! I will be sure to listen to the pronunciation guide. What do you mean by “francs?” I didn’t see it in the pronunciation guide.

This is my first dramatic reading, so could you give me the basics for making the recordings? My current knowledge is that I read just my lines separated by periods of silence. And each recording track should be of the complete chapter. What else do I need to know at this point?

Cheers,
Kim

Just use this link: https://forvo.com/word/francs/
There is no need for that heavy of an accent on it, just in the same wheelhouse.

Remember to read "Valentine de Villefort read by..." at the start of each chapter. Underneath I am also putting in my standard template about Dramatic Works for new readers, but it sound like you are on the right track:)

.
First, try and make sure you have as little background noise as possible. Follow the tips here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noise_Cleaning.
Second, when recording a part, think of it as having a conversation. How would you naturally speak? read the text and see how the character reacts to the things around him, and if it doesn't say, then try to imagine it yourself. Let the reactions sound in your voice. A line can be read in extremely different ways, depending on if the character is sad or happy, so just remember to pay attention to the text and what is going on around him.
Third, when you edit after you have recorded (you will edit, we all do), leave at least 3-4 seconds between the lines, so that it will be clear when I edit where the break is.

8:47 - "Well!" resumed the Catalan, as he saw the final glimmer of Caderousse's reason vanishing before the last glass of wine.
This was marked as Caderousse’s line however I believe it to be Fernand’s. Either way, neither recorded the line.
This one did not make it to the MW.

How do I generate 128kb FLAC from Audacity?
I'm used to generating 128kb MP3s, but don't see a kb option for FLAC, only a level and 16/24 bit options.

Apologies for the question - I've not saved to FLAC before.

Just do the export as you normally with and pick MP3 and in the drop down in "save as type" you will see FLAC files. That's it!

Hello Larry. Thanks for your reply. I'm still not getting it. When I save as MP3, I can set 128kb in the advanced settings on the save dialogue. When I save as FLAC, I can't see anywhere to set the bitrate. I can save as FLAC without specifying the bitrate fine, but the page 1 instructions say to save as 128 kb flac, and the filenaming of various uploaded files confirms this.

(Mind you, we are talking about 1-liner roles, so I suspect it doesn't matter much in this case anyway).
