Frank Merriwell at Yale; Or, Freshman Against Freshman by Burt L. Standish (1866 - 1945).

Gilbert Patten, writing under the pen name of Burt L. Standish, wrote innumerable novels that were very popular in their time. His Frank Merriwell stories were later adapted for radio and these, too, were very popular. Frank is the All-American boy---scholar, athlete, gentleman---and always displays quick thinking and fairness in all that he does. ( KevinS)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/11115
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I assumed that we had all of Patten's work!

Here's a wikipedia link to the character of Frank Merriwell, but not this specific book: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Merriwell

Fixed now!

I don't know how the other got there. It has a wonderful Christmas story in it, if I remember correctly.

Let me know if any changes are needed. I shortened the filename to frankmerriwellatyale_##_standish_128kb.mp3 and changed the book link so it goes to all versions of the book not just the html version. If you decide to use the shorter intro beginning with the second chapter you might also consider using the shortened name of the book, Frank Merriwell at Yale.

Yes, thank you!

I will allow you to reconsider, however, when you hear my singing voice.

Don
Don, no rush to PL these. I've got Chapter 3 coming today, but I'm concerned I'm not putting enough energy into the reading. (I'm a pretty low-keyed individual, unless I get angered.)

Feedback on this aspect will be greatly appreciated and I know you will be frank about it. (That's an awful pun, isn't it?)

Hi Kevin,

Chapter 3 is PL OK!

Chapter 2 PL notes:
@ 00:44 - Missing phrase (in red): "The party came trooping in, and Frank was not a little astonished …"

Don't be concerned! I thought the reading was fine, with a good middle-ground between being "as dry as dust" and "over the top." :D In a couple of places it felt a little rushed, but nothing to cause one to think of re-recording anything. And Chapter 3 was also well done, IMHO.

Overall, I'm enjoying your reading very much.
