The Major Symptoms of Hysteria by Pierre Janet (1859 - 1947).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/the-major-symptoms-of-hysteria-by-pierre-janet/

In this series of lectures delivered in English by the author while visiting the USA, Janet summarises the (at the time) cutting edge perspective on the various forms of hysteria. The syndromes include generalised amnesic states and conversion disorders, and show Janet's highly influential views regarding the fundamental role of dissociation. The lectures provide an insight into the development of this area of psychiatry out of the neurological field of the nineteenth century, with Janet dropping some famous names from the history of medicine. IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

This looks historically interesting. Are you looking for a DPL?

Hi Peter,
I will MC for you. Be back shortly with the MW.

ETA: All set. If you want to shorten the filenames you can use hysteria_##_janet_128kb.mp3 Up to you...

Once you see this post and Lynette's offer of DPL, I will add her and move the thread to Going Solo. :)

Hi Lynette
Slightly awkward situation - I had prearranged with Erin (Newgatenovelist) to DPL and failed to indicate this in my post as I was still needing to confirm with her. She too has indicated she would be happy to stand aside if that would be better protocol. As far as I'm concerned I am delighted to have two highly capable DPL-ers available. I seek your outlook on this dilemma!
Best wishes
Peter

Hey, Peter! It's no sweat at all!

Since you'd already arranged with Erin, why don't you two go ahead and work together on this?

There will be plenty other projects coming along that will be interesting. :)

Thanks Lynette for being understanding.
I'll advise Erin that she will be DPL for this project after all.

Yes, both a solo reader (me) and a DPL.

Three notes for section 02. The second and third will depend on whether or not you want the Shakespeare to be word perfect.

1.31-1.35, last line p. 22
…sometimes they are in connection with sensations [heard thoughts] or ideas and very complicated states of consciousness…

6.55-6.57, third line p. 26, omission
Here’s the smell of [the] blood still…

7.54-7.56, middle third p. 26
Will she go now [heard now go] to bed?
