The Dial: No. 1 by Charles Haslewood Shannon (1863 - 1937) and others.

This marvelous project is now in our catalog at https://librivox.org/the-dial-the-first-number-of-the-series-by-charles-haslewood-shannon/
The Dial was an art magazine, which ran to five issues between 1889 and 1897. It was edited and published by Charles Shannon and Charles Ricketts from The Vale, their shared home in Chelsea, London. Contributors to this first number include the editors, R. Savage, and the poet John Gray (who is best known as the rumored inspiration for Oscar Wilde's fictional character, Dorian Gray). Wilde told Ricketts that The Dial No. 1 "is quite delightful but do not bring out a second number. All perfect things should be unique".(Rob Marland)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/gri_33125014428284
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      Artist: Various
      Title: ## - [Section title]
      Album: The Dial: No. 1

Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

Thanks, Phil. By the way, I think it will be best to do this project in the style where the project authors are listed as Various and each section has a listed author. I have not BCed a project like that before, so I wasn't sure what to change in the settings / recording instructions.

EDIT: I have amended the recording instructions to match those I found being used by another project that is recording a periodical.

Thanks, Kevin! I came across this because the contributors were in Oscar Wilde's social circle, and had never heard of the (much longer running) American version until I started Googling for the British one.

Hey Rob,

May I claim section 4 please.

Since you don't have a DPL yet, I took a listen to your two sections and here are my notes:

Section 1 - nicely read and PL OK!

Section 8 - also very well read and just one edit needed. At 4:39, there is a repeat of "the chattering girls and craped old women". If you could make that slight edit and upload again for a spot PL, I'll take a 2nd listen.
