[Solo] In Darkest England and the Way Out by William Booth (1829 - 1912).

William Booth (1829 – 1912) was the founding General of the Salvation Army in late nineteenth century England. Finding his salvation as a teenager, he went on to become one of the most controversial and, ultimately, well-loved and respected social reformers of his day. Published in 1890 amidst the turmoil of the death of his beloved wife, Catherine, In Darkest England was hailed as a revolutionary approach to coping with the social ills facing Great Britain at the time. Although 130 years old, this controversial book of Victorian England still has much to say of note today.(Summary by Tom Hirsch)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/in-darkest-england-and-the-way-out-by-william-booth/
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/475
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Have a good night!

A very ambitious project, Tom!

And, I can't think of anyone better to do it than you. :D

If you or Pattymarie need help on anything, just give a holler.

I wanted to post my note of congratulations here on the completion of William Booth's biography!
This is certainly not what I expected when I launched the project, but I could not be more pleased! :D

Tom, you have made a great contribution and have done it with excellence!
Pattymarie, your faithfulness in these projects is an inspiration.

And, now, to see you both taking on this, another significant work, is heart warming to say the least.

Thank you! :9:

Thanks, Larry.

From what I've read of In Darkest England so far, it promises to be a very memorable experience.
Many thanks to Pattymarie for finding it and calling it to my attention. I'm pleased to be working with her again.

Thanks, Larry. I'm glad this is giving you pleasure as I hope and think it must be giving God pleasure to see this work given voice as well as being preserved in and distributed freely from the Gutenberg archives.
