Christmas Short Works Collection 2019

This project is complete and all audio files can be found in our catalogue: https://librivox.org/christmas-short-works-collection-2019-by-various/
Christmas 2019 is coming, so get your thinking caps on and join in this year's collection. If you have any doubts about the PD status or the relevance to this collection , just post and ask
**In order that all may contribute , 2 contributions only pre reader please ***
  • How to claim a part: It is not necessary to pre-claim a section for this project but see the summary above. Simply follow the instructions below.
    1. Find a Christmas-themed selection (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, whatever) in any language.
    2. Ensure that your text is clearly in the public domain. Gutenberg is a good source. Another possibility is an archive scan which includes clear copyright information. Publication date must be 1923 or earlier. If you are unsure about the copyright status of your selection, you may want to ask for help to verify that it is public domain before you record.
    3. If you are not in the US, please ensure that you know and abide by the copyright laws in your own country as well as US law (above). Again, if you are unsure, ask.
    4. Your submission can be as long or short as you need, as long as it is under 70 minutes or so.
    5. If you'd like to see what has already been included in a previous Christmas Collection, they can all be found here: https://librivox.org/search?q=christmas%20collection&search_form=advanced However, if your selection has been done before, you are still welcome to submit your own recording. I do ask that no duplicates be included in the same collection together.
    6. Extra sections will be added to the MW as they become necessary.
    7. Please feel free to submit suggestions of works that would be a good fit for this collection, if you know of any. I will collect these suggestions in the post below.
  • New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  • Is there a deadline? All submissions should be received by Wednesday, December 18. Should you wish extra time, you may request it, but we may be unable to grant it. Discretion will be left to the DPL and the MC, in that case.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I would like to contribute a poem I've been saving up all year -- "The Orphan's Dream of Christmas". Here's the problem: I found it in Harper's magazine via Gutenberg (http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/32945) where it has no author credited.

Harper's also does not credit Dickens' British periodical, Household Words, from which it was reprinted! Household Words also does not list the author's name, however searching around online turned up the name "Eliza Griffiths" as the author. I also cannot find out any information on Ms Griffiths, no birth or death dates. Search made more frustrating by the fact that there is a contemporary artist/author/poet named Rachel Eliza Griffiths with a large web presence but there's no Wikipedia entry and even one of the academic books about Victorian writers says that virtually nothing is known of Eliza Griffiths except that she had several poems and stories printed in Household Words.

Should I just go with the superficial "by anonymous" since that's how the poem appears in the source I'll be reading from?

Thanks,
Colleen

I think I'd go with anonymous in the circumstances.

Hello Anne, :D
I'm a "newbie" and very excited to be part of this amazing community.
I've been enjoying myself recording away.
So here is my contribution to your collection.
A rather sad story, but really touching.
(I'll record a merrier one as well  )
