I never thought about bombs being used so long ago as weapons of terrorism.

This section ends with the Second Opium War, in which the British and French, with "gunboat diplomacy" overcame Chinese opposition to their addicting the Chinese people to opium from India. Early annals of the opioid crisis.

I can remember when I learned about the Opium War how shocked I was that the English were the aggressors and I remember how shocked I was to read Victorian novels where there were opium dens in London. I was a teenager in the 1960s and all drugs were sold by BAD PEOPLE. Not GOOD PEOPLE.

Of great interest indeed. My dad was a Baptist minister and although I never followed the religion, I do remember his steadfast belief in separation of church and state. On a school board he wanted to replace "Christmas vacation" with "winter vacation" on the school calendar. He was castigated in the press and people phoned the house to harass him. I often think that many people will claim a religion in order to get a job or get a better job. Good on the man who wouldn't swear as a true Christian when he wasn't.

Funniest thing happened. I downloaded this section and got a few things done before I could listen to it. It was letter perfect, as always and I went to PL OK it but Librivox was offline! It was back on this morning so no harm done.
