That's a good question. LibriVox likes to link with Wikipedia, though it's not all that reliable or unbiased, in my unreliable and biased opinion. I tend to trust it for year of death, though.

Hey Kevin,
I had thought there was a specific website for the date of death, through LV. It seems to me that in prior readings of mine, I had noticed and used that. Well I will do as you have mentioned for future recordings where a date of death is needed.

It had nothing to do with the exact date of his death.
He died in 1954. For Australia, authors who died "after 1954" (1955 or later) are not PD. So this author is OK for Australians.
It was just the wording may make it seem that this author isn't PD for Australia, since one could read it as "not PD if died in 1954 or later" - which isn't the case. It's 1955 or later that is not OK.
Clear as mud?
