The City of Din by Dan McKenzie ( - 0).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-city-of-din-by-dan-mckenzie/
A treatise on the increasing loudness of modern life, including philosophical and scientific discussion of what noise is, how effects us physically, mentally, and socially in cities, on railways, at home, in workplaces, and on battlefields of war. The book concludes with some strong suggestions for protecting ourselves from noise as well as for lessening noise altogether. (summary by Amelia Chesley)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015013206308;view=1up;seq=5
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

it's about a week until my spring semester is officially over, but I'm looking forward to more recording time and my third solo.

still deciding exactly which bits should be grouped as sections, but I should have that sorted out sometime soon. there shouldn't need to be more than 12.

thanks in advance to my future MC and any willing DPL volunteers!

okay, I finally finalized how the sections will shake out for this. most are at least kind of the same general length.

there is one extra section in the MW that can be deleted when you get around to it, Kristine.

I will hopefully get started recording some of this very soon!

Hey guys! I'm sorry to have to do this, but I have to relinquish my PL duties for this project since school has started and I am very busy!

Thanks for understanding,

finally, a section is recorded and uploaded: https://librivox.org/uploads/kikisaulite/cityofdin_01_mckenzie_128kb.mp3
it's just 6:03 in duration.

I've got section 2 recorded, but not yet edited.

Is a drop-in okay? If so, PL OK for the Prologue! I enjoyed listening to it very much!
