History of England, in words of one syllable by Helen W Pierson ( - 0).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page:https://librivox.org/history-of-england-in-words-of-one-syllable-by-helen-w-pierson/
A simple history of England written principally with words of one syllable. Books of these kind, I understand, are helpful for both beginning and remedial reading students. (KevinS)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/historyofengland00pier/page/n7
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

As these chapters are designed principally for beginning or remedial readers, a slower pace should be taken in the reading. Nothing painfully slow, but a measured pace appropriate to the purpose. If you should find this too difficult, please don't worry. No one will judge you if you ask to be removed from this project.

Please do not begin recording your chapter until the BC has confirmed your claim specifically.

I have not yet found a death date for the author. That being the case, I assume this reading will be confined to those under US copyright laws. (The book is PD.)

I hope I am wrong in this assumption, as I suspect some British volunteers and others will enjoy contributing.

As an aside, should this project prove popular, I will try to continue with History of France in Words of One Syllable by Helen Pierson;
History of Germany in Words of One Syllable by Helen Pierson; and History of Russia in Words of One Syllable by Helen Ainslie Smith.

Of course, others are invited to BC these other books if they wish.

I've recorded Chapter One for my contribution and to test myself. I will determine tomorrow at about what rate I have read. This should give others an idea of what we might hope for in terms of pace.

Somewhat contrary to my expectations, my 'thoughtful' pace gives a word per minute rate of about 140-50. I was puzzled at first, but now realize, or assume, that more short words---like these---fit into a minute than multisyllabic texts.

I'll MC, Kevin. The MW is ready. Please note that I shortened the file name to make it more manageable.

I was not able to find a death date either, but considering she was writing books in 1861, pretty good chance she has been dead long enough to make it PD for everyone. :-)

Thank you! I'll get to work filling in the MW.

If the author was ten when she wrote this book, then she'd be 168 today. I imagine she was a bit older than ten, so that puts her as ancient.

I must have made a mistake when I submitted this launch. We only need 23 sections.

Rough word counts done. There are two or three relatively brief chapters.
