Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many Librivox volunteers as possible!

This week we read O Captain! My Captain! by Walt Whitman. Thanks to yoyology for suggesting we do this for President?s Day! The poem can be found on Bartleby: http://www.bartleby.com/101/743.html
O CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!
By Walt Whitman

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up--for you the flag is flung--for you the bugle trills;
For you bouquets and ribbon'd wreaths--for you the shores a-crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head;
It is some dream that on the deck,
You've fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
The ship is anchor'd safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;
Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!
But I, with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
At the beginning, read the abbreviated "librivox disclaimer":

Don't give me the credit, yoyology suggested it for President's Day! I haven't read it in years either, it is a nice one.

Thanks for the recordings Ted and Chip!

2nd attempt. Not as happy with this one; it was actually kind of hard, I thought.

This is a difficult one, lots of emotion to maneuver through, but you did a wonderful job with it. One little technical thing to change for next time: your bit rate was set to 256kbps and it needs to be at 128kbps. I converted this one easily enough, but it should be a simple matter of changing the settings in your recording software and then you'll never have to worry about it again. Thank! :)

One day I will get the technical aspects right!

Tracy - don't worry, it's not a big deal.

Mark and Marian - files received, thank you!

Marian - your file was missing ID3 tags. If you need help with how to do those, visit the FAQ or the Need Help forum. Thanks. :)

I checked on my recording and it does show the ID3 tags but would you like me to send it to you again?

Hmm3r - yes, it worked, thank you! How would you like your name to appear on the catalog page? Do you have a URL you would like included?

Marian - Hmm, that's odd. I noticed that the Blake recording you sent me also isn't showing ID3 tags on my end. No need to send it again, I can add them easily enough. But I'll have someone who is more technically inclined download and check to see if they can figure out what is going on.
