Poems of Nature by Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/poems-of-nature-by-henry-david-thoreau/

The fifty poems here brought together under the title ‘Poems of Nature’ are perhaps two-thirds of those which Thoreau preserved. Many of them were printed by him, in whole or in part, among his early contributions to Emerson’s Dial, or in his own two volumes, The Week and Walden, which were all that were issued in his lifetime. Others were given to Mr. Sanborn for publication, by Sophia Thoreau, the year after her brother’s death (several appeared in the Boston Commonwealth in 1863); or have been furnished from time to time by Mr. Blake, his literary executor.

Most of Thoreau’s poems were composed early in his life, before his twenty-sixth year, ( from Introduction, Henry S. Salt and Frank B. Sanborn, eds.)

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Yes, I'd be happy to have you.
It will be a little while before I start this, but it shouldn't be too long.

Jo will put you in with MW access.

Thanks so much. :9:

Well, in that case you might take a look at this project that I am doing as a collaborative project Very interesting little poems. I don't have a DPL yet, just another reader an myself PLing as we can. Just post a note if you'd like the DPL role, but certainly only if it interests you.

Just checking in to say that I'm still intending to get this started.
Just a heavy, overtime workload this month, but the pace should ease up soon so I can get started on this.

I've posted the first four poems, and send a PM to out DPL.
I hope to work on this steadily now, with a handful of poems each week.
