Yep, this is just a suggestion most of the text can probably be read by one person - there are maybe about 4 dialogues and a few poems that could conceivably be converted to DRs, but that's it. All hypothetical, of course!TriciaG wrote: ↑August 9th, 2019, 2:38 pm Unless someone is actually, imminently going to make it into a DR, I don't want to pursue finding a PD text. Heck - I'm prudish, so I wouldn't want to be the one to pursue finding a PD text anyway. At this point it's just a suggestion, correct? So we could cross the "where's a text" bridge if and when we come to it. (Unless someone else wants to put in research to find one, that is.)

This would be a monumental project, but...
If anyone ever ever ever would like to do Varney the Vampire as a DR, I'd love to narrate.

I know we already have it as a 3-volume series in the catalogue:

This is enormous! The three volumes come out over 60 hours of recorded time! How much of that would be narration?maxgal wrote: ↑August 17th, 2019, 10:38 am This would be a monumental project, but...

It would take a truly intrepid person to put this together. And, from what I've seen of large DR's, this would be a multi-year project. I had a part in a DR fast approaching its 5-year anniversary that still is not completed. . . . .

Surely good DRs need books with a good percentage of conversation. At random I picked chapter VI of the first volume and found
"The money is -- -- " (writing on pocket book)
"The money is not," spoken by the family lawyer And that was it.
Now this may not be typical but by chapter VI I thought they would be into the story. But at that rate it would be hard to justify. And I'm not prepared waste time trying other chapters

It occurred to me because as I glanced further on, I saw that Chapter II -- and II, and IV, and V -- were at least 2/3 dialogue.
I didn't get to Chapter VI... Go figure.

Ah.
I know it was first performed in 1920:

And here is more information copied from the "Samuel French" website:
In this popular American mystery play, incident is piled on incident with skill and plausibility, and it is impossible to know who the real criminal is until the final curtain. This thriller revolves around Cornelia Van Gorder, a maiden lady of sixty, who rents the summer home of a banker reported killed in Colorado. She is warned that mysterious things are happening but she refuses to move. Then it is discovered that a large sum is missing from the dead man's bank and it is suspected that, far from being dead, he stole the money, hid it in a secret chamber in his house and is only waiting for a chance to sneak back to get it. Four others are after the money: the bank cashier who is wrongfully accused of taking it, a detective engaged by Miss Van Gorder to clear up the mystery, a doctor friend and supposed confederate of the missing banker and The Bat, a notorious thief who has long eluded the police. This genuine thriller is guaranteed to divert any audience.

Can some Almighty Admin Person please move this topic to the Play Suggestions forum?
THANKS!

I am planning on doing this DR eventually, but am thinking with 13 others going right now waiting a few months might be a good idea. Not having been on here that long, I don't know, but is this area a bit saturated right now?
Anyhoo, expect to see it sometime. I plan on BC/Narration/Parts PLing and Editing myself...
Andrew the Glad by Maria Thompson Daviess
Brief Description and Character Summaries
I know, cheesy title, but lovely book with loads of dialogue.

There isn't really such a thing as tagging on this forum, but yes, I am planning to launch it at some point! I don't quite know when, yet.ArthurNascimento wrote: ↑September 10th, 2019, 4:12 pm If anyone ever wants to do a Dramatic Reading of The Jungle Book, tag me please

There are a lot, I think, that are in the editing phase. That's almost always the bottleneck - that, and narrators' lines.but is this area a bit saturated right now?
Serial novel: The Wandering Jew
