The Castles of Athlin and Dunbayne by Ann Radcliffe (1764 - 1823).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/the-castles-of-athlin-and-dunbayne-by-ann-radcliffe/
Ann Radcliffe is the founder of the gothic novel. This novel is no exception. The wicked baron murdered the good earl's father twelve years before the novel began. Only twelve years later, free from his mother's wishes, can the earl seek revenge. Meanwhile, Mary, the earl's beautiful sister is falling in love with a peasant. Yet her brother was abducted by the baron and he wants to marry her. She may have to wed him in order to secure his return. We see Mary's conflict along with a description of her brother's captivity. This book has everything: murder, revenge, battles, damsels in distress, aristocrats, captives, secrets, and, most of all, love. It is a love story in every sense: the love to the Scottish highlands in which it is set, the family love that binds almost above all else, and of course the love between men and women. This short work would later influence Radcliffe's other works. Radcliffe had an influence on Jane Austin, Mary Shelley, and many others who wrote popular gothic novels. ( Stav Nisser and Wikipedia )
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/r/radcliffe/ann/athlin/
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

ok you have your MW to fill out. Let me know if you need any help :)

I only shortened the file name a little bit, the rest seems fine.

Let's wait a bit to attract a DPL before I move us to Books...

Hi Lauren, welcome aboard. Chapters 1 and 2 are all yours. However I don't understand what you mean by narrating. It is not a dramatic reading... Anyhow, have fun.

your guesses are as good as mine, Lauren, and I think your pronunciations sound lovely. :9: It's an absolutely perfect start to the book, lively narration, clear diction, it was a pleasure to listen to it and roam in my mind through the Highlands. 8-)

No textual errors at all, every perfect. Already looking forward to hearing more from you. :) Only one small thing to correct is the volume, which is outside our range of 86-92 dB. Yours is only 85.3, which is a bit low. Could you amplify with 3 dB please, to get it into a good average range ?

Thank you very much. Now this chapter has whetted my appetite for the rest of the story, so I'll put myself up for DPL.

Hi Sonia,

I've re-uploaded with db raised by 3.10.

Thank you,
I'm almost wishing I had claimed the book as "Solo", but my schedule says otherwise. :D

Hi Lauren, sure, chapter 3 is all yours. Look the fact with solos is that they have no deadline as long as you send updates once in a month or two. So if you want it as solo, there is no rush. It's not like a group project where you have to submit your claims within the two months period because other readers did and it's not fair. And it is not a long book. I am not pressuring you, only stating a few facts, because I know first time soloists are confused about that.

super, now all is PL ok :)

I agree with Stav, for a Solo you don't have a deadline, just regular check-ups to say you're still interested. As no one has claimed any chapters yet, there is still time to switch to Solo. Just let us know :)
